Music supplement for colleges?

Do colleges care if it is DVD (videorecording) or CD (audiorecording)?

Also, is it okay if I record myself playing in my home because then I can choose the best run, rather than a recording on stage?

I want to major in biology and will be applying to UPenn and Johns Hopkins.

Some colleges may have certain preferences, but as a general rule I think they like CDs (of all the schools I visited/talked to, not a single one wanted a DVD over CD). If you’re just doing a supplement (and not a music major) then recording at home should be fine.

I did my recordings at home and sent in via CD. You may want to talk to the music heads at your schools too. Some prefer you send them a copy of the recording you send to admissions. I don’t think UPenn cared, but a prof at Brown requested me to send mine directly to him. It never hurts to meet the conductors and stuff to. If you haven’t already you may want to sit in on a rehearsal.

Thanks so much! That is exactly what I will do!

Good luck! You definitely should do it. An arts supplement helps a ton. Also, some schools have earlier deadlines if you’re sending in a supplement, so make sure to check that deadline.
