Arts Supplement

With the new integration of SlideRoom on the Common App serving as the Arts Supplement, students now have the option to upload up to 25 files. As a singer, that seems like a lot! Would it be better to upload lots of songs to provide variety, or just pick 2-5 that serve as a representative sample? Additionally, are they only looking for solo performances, or would putting up a few recordings to group choral numbers help to show them the level of ensemble caliber at my high school? This is a big change from the 10 min max recording that the old supplements asked for.

Fyi, I am not a music major, just looking to demonstrate the depth of my singing experience to the adcom.

It accepts video, audio, image, and PDF files of up to 10mb each. You can also link to YouTube, Vimeo, or SoundCloud.

I would probably just submit a few of your top performances. Admissions offices receives a large amount of applicants and will allot only a certain amount of time to each applicant. I’d focus mainly on your solo pieces (maybe 1 or 2 ensemble performances depending on the size of the group) because at the end of the day it’s YOUR application and you need to portray your individual talents to the admissions committee. Just my specific opinion but others may beg to differ. Best of luck with the application process!

Kind of crashing here: Can any musician submit video files as well as audio files? Or the option of audio just for vocalists? I assume the format is going to vary by school? We have more videos of ds than audios, but he is an instrumentalist rather than a vocalist.

Thanks for any insights into this!
