As a freshman, when and how should I be looking for finance internships....

during the summer. After my first semester at McCombs at UT, I'm eager to find a summer internship related in the finance field, but I am having trouble knowing how to get started. I know there will not be that many opportunities in the specific area I plan to go into (ibanking), but any kind of help in the right direction will greatly be appreciated.

Grandpabuzz, we are in the same place. If you're starting now, well, work at it!

Go to networking events. Collect business cards like a magnet. Send and email constantly back. I screwed up a few of my contacts with too ... elusiveness comments, I guess it didn't work out. Anyways, don't do that.

Go to your college recruiting area, look through EVERYTHING. Anything that remotely interests you - shotgun it. This is basically an approach where you apply to ANYTHING, and see what you get as a result. I've applied to perhaps 14-15 places so far, and I've back from 1. Unpaid. I turned it down.

Get the highest GPA possible. This is crucial.

If you are a minority, apply to Inroads. Get ready to apply to SEO.

also take relevant coursework, and most importantly learn what ibanking is

Ibanking is rather difficult, sometimes impossible but not entirely, for freshmen. first thing one needs to do is research and do the homework: read books, books, book, and network!!! the best way to start out is to reach for more local companies. do well in your studies, read the companies in which you want to apply to and check to see what they look for in an intern. then with those, work to get those specifications. good luck
