What are my chances at Ivies(particularly interested in Penn, Columbia), Georgetown, and Northwestern?
I'm hoping to major in Psychology
Thanks

Korean, Virginia, not great rank or scores, ivies will be big reaches. Georgetown is a high match is you're in top 10%. Northwestern is also a reach.

i'm also the editor of campus life section of school newspaper.

the school doesn't have a weighted grading system.
usually, when the colleges reconfigure our grades, they go up significantly.
(by how much, I'm not so sure)
in which area should I devote most of my time?
any comment?

Probably spend the time on schools like Vandy and Emory.

Vandy and Emory are slightly low
We sent a substantial amount of students(Koreans) to both schools last year, and they all had average (1900sh SAT, B+orA- Average, a few APs, almost no ECs) stats.

Things are harder than they were 2 years ago. A 1420 isn't going to do it at ivies and there's not a lot inbetween. Just one opinion.

Due to "January SAT Crisis", there is a severe inflation in SAT scores of some Korean students, and I hope it doesn't hurt me.

Anyway, do ivies look at the highest score from each section?

What are some match/reach schools with these stats if I want to major in Psychology?

lawlz, because in top notch schools, a large percentage of the applicants are asian, and the school can only accept a certain %

Yes, that's true for sure.
The problem is that the majority of the asians are applying to
business schools, engineering schools, and pre-med schools.

No, Asians are flooding alltop 20 schools with apps now. There has also been a huge increase this year in apps from intnl. Asians.

Just a comment....a 2170 SAT is not "low," even for ivy standard.

I know a number of people who got into HYP with that score (and some even lower). The thing that you need to focus on is how to distinguish yourself from the flood of Asian perfect-scorers. EC is a good place to start.

Sorry, a 2170 IS low for a non hooked candidate at ivies. This "I know people" stuff is just BS, read The Price of Admission by Golden and A is for Admission by Hernandez.

suze - 2170 is perfectly fine

just find a great summer program this year that focuses on what you do and get a great internship

where do you live in VA maybe you are close enough to the capital to get a great internship there. only take the SATs once if you think you can raise your score. try the ACT too some schools swap all SATs for your ACT score if its better (this includes PENN)

Great Intership
Would it be better if it were related to the major?
What about working for a psychology magazine or working for a clinical psychology department in a hospital?

Hey Suze, are you calling some of my best friends to HYP as "BS" just because they got some 2100 SAT score? How insolent!

As for A for Admission by Hernandez, I think half that should be real BS (read that two years ago...)
