As an International Student

How tough is it to get into HYPSM as an international student?

The more applicants from a particular country, the more competition and the harder it is to get in. What country are you from?

India. And want to apply for astronomy major.

Okay- The elite schoold have a 20-30% international base-say 400 international students per freshman class. The big question is how many seats go to India? don’t know if there an exact formula but considering the other counties like China, et al. Maybe India get 25% of the slots or a 100 slots per school. So if your in the top 500 students of your country start packing and welcome to the U.S. If your not but you’re the top 1000-2000 students in your country. You still have a good shot depending on how many students stay in country and go to the elite Universities around the world. GL

Well does it depend upon major? because I guess there are very less number of students applying for this major.

I’m not sure. But I suppose it could help if your the only Astro person and everyone else is studying something else. But the visa-versa also hold true. Hopefully more posts will follow.

may be and thanks.

HYP have incredible Fin Aid for international students and thus, receive enormous #s of applications. Everyone’s odds are worse than terrible, to be blunt. My guess is less than 4 or 5% admit rate

And HYPMS don’t have “20-30%” of seats reserved for Internationals. It’s more like 10-15%
