As bad as it seems?

i've heard from about 30 UCSD incoming freshman while trying to find a roommate for off-campus housing, and so far the vast majority of them have described themselves as "Your standard quiet asian kid." nearly all of them have stated an opposition to drinking and smoking, and none have expressed any interest in partying.

i know it takes all kinds to make up a college campus, including nerdy kids who think that having fun will ruin their GPAs, but is UCSD fun at all? is it really all academic shut-ins? i turned down an admission to UCSB to go here, and i'm really hoping that i didn't make the wrong decision. somebody give me some faith, because i'm faltering quite a bit here.

There will always be those introspective, quiet kids that spend their free time studying, but as in any other colleges, there will always be the 'partiers.' Get involved in clubs and meet as many people as you can so you can choose who to hang out with and be find out what else you can do.

I'm not the biggest partier, but I do drink on occasion and will attend parties whenever I have a chance to.

Keep in mind that most people tend to focus on the bad rather than the good.

UCSD has something for everyone, I have friends at the school that are hardcore partiers and hardcore pre-med nerds, and none of them are disappointed with the school.

And if you're really into partying 24/7 and UCSD doesn't satisfy you, SDSU is only 10 minutes away.

great, thanks for the info guys. i'm not some huge partier, but i do like to have fun as much as possible. i'm sure it'll work out fine.

im pretty sure that if they dont party they do other fun stuff , im pretty sure they are outgoing , dont lost hope :)

no we generally stay indoors and study alot

and... there is always tijuana!! wooo!!

What I'm trying to understand is why you somehow found 30 incoming freshmen all looking for off-campus housing their first year. That seems overly backwards. Unless all of you missed the housing deadline or something....

As for within the res halls we stayed at for Orientation, only one of the 8 of us really classified as the "quiet asian engineer" and this is Warren, mind you.

Basically, take what you hear with a grain of salt.

from orientation, dont worry about it. i had a loooota fun, from the orientation leaders, it seemed like the partyins a lot better than people say it is.
