As i read the article on 2009 applications on Dartmouth's site...

"The quality of prospective students also improved this year, with average SAT scores reaching a College-high of 1395, according to Furstenberg, who called the applicant pool "impressive" and said it put Dartmouth among the top five or six schools in the country this year."
http://www.thedartmouth.com/article.php?aid=2005012601010

does this mean, out of the 12500+ applications, the average SAT I is about 1395? that's scary!!!
and i bet they'll only taken the hight 1400s and 1500s and a very sub 1400(with hooks)

Whoa, I've never seen that article before...now I feel sick. Yuck.

this is really scary...i'm going to ATTEMPT to stop thinking about it and just wait patiently till D-Day...but thats not going to happen

wow... after reading that, i seriously don't understand why would they send me a likely letter. international asian male needing financial aid with sat right around the average....

i feel very priviledged.. thank you Dartmouth.

i love Dartmouth <3

holy shnikees! the article says the dean of admissions expects a 12% admit rate for regular decision-ers. dartmouth is definitely in the big time.

i love Dartmouth so much. it will hurt...SO MUCH...if i don't get in, even though I expect not to, lol

chat! go into chat!

12-15% admit rate...:O( !!! i hate online decisions too...id rather see the big/small envelope.

They plan to waitlist 1000? That will prolong the pain for a lot of people who will NEVER be admitted.

WOW

So after the ED's and the likelies (400+500=900) that means that an additional 800 ppl will be accepted. YIKES!!!!!!

But CCers are absolutely amazing so don't fret!!! Drink a cold lemonade and watch some TV as you wait for your acceptance letters.

I wouldn't think so, since many of those people will also be accepted by other Ivies/highly selective schools. They do want to preserve their yield...

i must say, i dont think i could ever be a director of admissions. just couldnt deal with the politics... (and thats not even considering fustenberg's "special" football politics..)

When the article says there are 1800 admits, is that the size (number of places) of the final class? If it is, doesn't that mean that there are more admits than 1800?

No...1800 admits means 1800 are admitted...i think they're aiming for a class of a little over 1000 students

the acceptance rate is just depressing...no matter what your stats are

yes...... I agree highly

Oh Dartmouth =]
Best of luck to everyone!
I'm sure it'll work out for all of you in any case.

I don't want to blow smoke up anybodies a s s, but think of the bright-side:

Within the dartmouth applicant pool, it's very likely that the "top-applications" (highest scores/grades/urm/athlete/legacy etc.--not necessarily the best students, just the most easy to identify from an application) have already been sorted out and got in ed/likely. Half of all acceptees are still to come and your obnoxious competitors are no longer in the mix. I'd say, for a lot of you worrying about your SAT's not being in the 1500-1600 range, or #1 in your class etc., that you now have a much fairer shot at being offered admissions; your odds have gone up not down!

Good Luck everybody!!

(and for those already in...how about a little humility and grace; nobody wants to go to school with a jerk)
