Hey everyone! I'm running for ASB Treasurer! This is my first year at this school so I'm hoping to make an impression through my speech. I'm running against someone who is the captain of mock trial, so that is competition! I was wondering if you all think my speech is okay? Is there anything I should improve? Fix? Please let me know! (:
"Hey Quakers! My name is lovepinesol and I'm running for ASB Treasurer! One of the main priorities of an ASB officer is to raise funds for her school... At a very young age I obtained a piggy bank. This ended up teaching me important values such as responsibility and organization when it comes to money. I believe I have acquired the skills to become a very reliable and dependable treasurer. Because I've always been extremely organized, that quality helped me maintain balance between school and extracurriculars. I will take initiative to go beyond my responsibilities as ASB Treasurer and employ effective communication with all of my officers. Im diligent, hard working, and a team player. I will work to distribute our assets wisely. Vote for lovepinesol, she won't make a fool of ya!"

You should probably mention something about personally wanting to be involved with the affairs of the school, because it’d show that not only are you the right person for the job because of your experience, you’d also attach yourself through the job through interest. (I’m the president of the SECME club at my school, and the treasurer is more than capable; he invests in stocks and has other financial experience. But not once has he actually been interested in the job, and he ended up turning in paperwork late. If you show you have interest, it doesn’t seem like you’re just trying to get something for college applications. Even if you are.)

Don’t memorize your speech exactly, because at that point it might sound as if you’re reciting a monologue. Personally, I think the best speeches are the ones where the speaker is openly talking to the “crowd.” Considering that you’re running against captain of mock trial, playing the friendly card should help here. And people always feel more comfortable talking to someone that’s easy to talk too, right?

Maybe you could give an example of your organization skills? You could maybe say something about how things bother you when they aren’t in order, or done right, or pull it off like some quirk that would come in handy for Treasurer duties. I really liked how you pulled the piggy bank story to show your money skills.

I hope this helps!

Thank you so much! (: I tried to revise it a little bit more, but because of my one minute time limit, I’m not able to fit in much!
