So I was wondering...my last name is obviously Asian, but I am half white and a dual French citizen. Will the Asian "anti hook" still hurt me? Thoughts please :)

Being a citizen of France may be helpful if you want to go to a university in France, and may reduce visa issues if you want to go to other universities in the EU.

I’m Asian myself, but I do not worry about such things. I’d like to think colleges in the US aren’t like that. I rather think that they look at what you put on the table. If there’s anything colleges do that’s because of your race, that is called prejudice and discrimination my friend. And I truly don’t know anyone who wasn’t accepted b/c of their race.

I’m a firm un-believer about the supposed Asian “anti-hook” for selective colleges. I’m a firm believer, however, of the “academically stunning but boring/cookie-cutter applicant” who apply in droves to the selective colleges – being lost in the masses.

(I’m an HYP Chinese alum with, according to CC standards, very mediocre scores but got into all schools applied due to my unique background)

Don’t worry about your heritage and strive to be yourself. Best of luck to you.
