****ASIAN APPLICANTS ROLLING RESULTS THREAD****

Hey guys, I’ve noticed that African-American and Hispanic students have entire SUBTOPICS (including hordes of results threads specific to them) dedicated to them. So, I figured that we Asian (American)s should at least have a thread for ourselves.

Some claim that due to “reverse racism” and racial quotas, Asians are held to a much higher standard in the college admissions process due to so many of them being overqualified. Whether or not that’s the case (hopefully not), this thread will provide a valuable tool for seeing what other Asian-Americans have done to be accepted/deferred/rejected into/from their chosen schools, if in fact, race DOES count as a major factor.

Please use the following format while posting the results. Good luck!

NOTE:

Just remove the ‘a’ in the bold, size and color in your decision.

Please only post results and/or discussion using the given format so that this thread can serve as a valuable resource for future applicants. There is another thread provided for congrats, etc. Non-relevant posts will be deleted.

General Comments (if any):

Well, I don’t think that Asians being held to a higher standard in college admissions is “reverse racism,” because Asians can be and are victims of “regular” racism. But thanks for making this thread.

I feel like Asians are held at a higher standard in part because of the relative homogeneity of their ECs/“passions”. For sports, they mostly play/do tennis, swimming, golf, CC, badminton. Almost all Asians I know play/played piano or an orchestra instrument. Chess and Science/Math Olympiad are some more common ECs. Over the summer, I would not be surprised to see “volunteering in a hospital” or “participating in a math/science/engineering program”. Asians are unfortunately perceived to be diligent but lacking in creativity. I don’t see a ton of Asians who started businesses or done anything groundbreaking for the community in an area of their expertise. Because so many Asians appear the same with similar grades/classes and ECs, it is hard for admissions officers to differentiate between them.

No, it’s because the US is 5% Asian. Asians are overrepresented in colleges, which is why they are held to higher standards.
