<p>Have you tried avoiding the ones you don’t like yet?</p>
<p>I actually know an Asian violinist who got into Harvard. It may shock you that he got in with such an Asian EC/hobby/passion.</p>
<p>Don’t avoid the ECs that Asians go for just because Asians go for them. Do the ones you love doing. That’s the whole point of college selection based on EC. If you’re joining ECs purely for the point of “not looking Asian,” colleges will see through it in a heartbeat.</p>
<p>^ Exactly. You shouldn’t avoid something out of fear of looking like a “stereotypical Asian”; if it’s something you genuinely love and are passionate about, then by all means go ahead and do it. Case in point: I absolutely love playing the piano. I’m not at the level of Carnegie Hall performers, but I’m pretty good, and I just love everything about the instrument – its range of dynamics, depth of emotional expression, you name it. I had to persuade my dad to buy me our first piano because I fell in love with it at an early age, and at that time we were pretty tight on finances. We ended up renting one from a family friend. I could go on and on for ages, but I’ll just say straight off the bat that I’m an Asian female and a proud pianist. :D</p>
<p>A non-Asian EC: football? trombone? competitive fishing?</p>
<p>Martial arts.</p>
<p>Swimming, tennis, any musical instrument, any academic club or organization. Sadly, we’re not left with much when it comes to non-stereotypical activities. Try writing a decent book or something.</p>
