lol wow, unlimited, a little harsh there..., anyway i think you have at least a decent shot at the schools you mentioned, maybe try caltech also?

You will get into Stanford if you are not applying for FA, but now it is just random =p. That IChO medal is worth a lot. And yeah, try Caltech, they need girls. =p

your test scores are very strong, and u got medals (mean a lot). but you have a low GPA, making one to wonder whether you took a break from your school only to prepare for SATs or will you be able to hundle school works and other activies (like Olympiad) at the same time...><

Mudd with FA has a very low chance of happening. From HMC's site:

If you are an international transfer student who needs financial aid, your chances for admission may be remote. It is very unlikely that we’ll admit international transfer students who apply for financial aid.

It's putting me in a bit of a dilemma right now. Sucks, eh?

fiona is not an international transfer student.

also... i think a 3.4 UW at HER school could be a pretty impressive feat. inside info for fiona: In recent years, no Singaporean (pink IC) has been admitted into MIT without participation in an international olympiad, ISEF, or RSI. that really eliminates a large chunk of the competition for you :)

Not really. I know a talent PRC schloar who toped in maths olympiads in Singapore 2007year got admited into MIT. Being not a Singparean, he is not entitled to IMO. What a pity!

Indeed, Singapore has a large pool of foreign talented student, who are not entitled for international olympiad, ISEF, or RSI. Look at the number of PRC scholars at national level competition:

maths: there are more than 30+ in the top 50 individual for open section for mathematics olympiads.
2.physics: those singaporeans who can make to second round of national physics olympiad are guranteed a place in national team. why? so few of them.

I dun know about chem and bio as i am not good at these two subjects.

Personally i am curious how international competition medals, ISEF awards or RSI affects your chances. Let me show you what i mean:

MIT has 8% out of 1000+ to be international students, among them, not all are geeks mugging maths/science..so ther are probably 40 to 60 seats. assume all international students are considered at the same time. IMO has 60+ gold medals, ICHO has 40+ gold medals, IPHO has another 40+ and IBO maybe 30+. ISEF award reciptant proably many as well, RSI has around 30 international students... Suppose among them, half of them want to go US. this number is much larger than 40 to 60, and i havnt counted silver/bronze/honorable mention in intl competition.

Fiona, i think your chance is higher than me at least:D

galileilei: i guess alot of these international olympiad/isef/rsi ppl aren't planning to pursue their undergrad studies in US anyway... let me put it this way, assuming a 12th grader (or equivalent) attends these events in may-july of their 12th grade, by then most of them would have applied to college already.

Fiona, I think I know which school you're from. Is it NUS HS? In that case, a 3.4 UW is very low, considering your school does GPA on a 5.0 scale. Or did you already convert to the 4.0 scale?

Anyway, your test scores are excellent. Your extracurriculars are great, especially when your school is put into consideration. Note to future chancers: NUS HS is a boarding school, where the students only get let home on weekends, so students don't have very many opportunities to do much in terms of EC's. Please keep this in mind.

And as for whether you'll get in or not: well, I don't know. It all depends on whether that GPA is out of 5.0 or 4.0... but even if it was 4.0 it's still pretty low. I'd strongly recommend you to work on it some more while you still have time.

Best of luck in the college admissions process!

They're definitely reaches, but not impossible with your 1600, the fact that your a girl, and your ECs (unlike others, I think your ECs are good, especially research). Was the research published? The could help a lot.

Oh, Reed isn't a reach, I think it's a match for you and I'd be a little surprised if you didn't get in.
