"USC for grad school? hahah I would never consider that....I value my life way too much to get shot by drug peddlers"

What a stereotype.

well you have to admit, it's not exactly the safest place; however, staying safe is just a matter of not being stupid. there are so many cases of drunk people walking back to campus while talking on their cell phones and getting mugged.

haha ya...we trojans must travel in packs

Wow, this thread gave me a whole new look on UCLA. I guess I'm gonna have to put up with the asians. No offense. It saddens me that my ethinicity, African American, is below 5% of the enrollment. Most or All of them are probably in sports.

Most, or all, African Americans enrolled at UCLA are in sports?! What a horrible stereotype, but your statement holds true, to a certain extent that is. I'd love to start a debate over this topic, but I know people will become offended.

Lasko, I agree. I am also African American and it also shocked me. Unfortunately, the statement is true in regards to at least the male African American. For every one African American male that I know that doesn't play a sport there are usually 5-6 that do.

Next you walk down bruin walk count how many of them have the athletic backpacks or clothing apparel that would only available to athletes if you don't believe me.

As a high school senior from a top, suburban school in Pennsylvania (somewhere near U Penn), I was shocked at the number of Asians at UCLA when I went there over the summer.

I felt like I was in Beijing. My Chinese professor @ UCLA who taught the statistics summer course couldn't even speak basic English.

i went to a high school that was ~90% (not exaggerating) Asian, so i think UCLA has good mix of asians, whites, and latinos. Then again, thats just me.

^
What high school?
My high school was made up of probably 70% Whites, 15% Asians, and 10% Latinos, 1% Blacks, and 4% Other.

"I guess I'm gonna have to put up with the asians. No offense."

It's not too hard to find some offense in that.

Anyhow, I could just be playing devil's advocate here, or I could just be in a rotten mood because the weather is ****ing me off, but... have you ever wondered that maybe for an Asian person who went to a predominantly Asian or minority school, he/she could be coming to UCLA thinking, "WOW! Look at all these White people!"

It's a bit of a culture shock on all sides, is all I'm saying. =]

i hope they implement Proposition 209 everywhere. that'd be petty cool.

Wow, i srsly dont kno wut to expect...

I'm a Jap, but I grew up in a neighborhood with a lot of European immigrants. My closest friends are skaters, and there is virtually no Asian skater at my school. The only Asian thing about me is I study hard. I have never ever hung out with an all-Asian group, which I see frequently on my HS campus (the chinese group, the korean group, etc).

I also get mistaken as half-white cuz I look like one. I think UCLA will cause some sort of identity crisis in me.

What do posts #4 and 5 have to do with the thread opener?

The question was about proportionality of Asians in the student body. The question was not about proportionality of studious admits, unless the repliers have a racist or stereotypical assumption that Asians study, whereas others do not.

Why the heck did someone bump this thing up from 4 months ago >_>;;

What are the pros and cons of having a lot of Asians at a school? I'm Asian myself and I go to a school where most kids are rich spoiled brats from NYC or just rich people from the tri-state area. Asians are only international Korean students, so I've always wanted to go to a school with more Asians.

Pro-Meet more Asians
If you haven't had much interaction with Asians, you can fit into a clique
Mutual understanding of Asian values (study>>>>fun)
Being able to better relate with someone

Con-Asians can be annoying in masses
Less emphasis on the wonderful college experience, more on post-college
Asians as a whole don't party as well as the other ethnicities
Massive Massive curve killers

*****, please. asians party just as well as anyone else.

...LAN parties maybe xD
