My D is really interested in Asian Studies. She is specifically interested in Chinese. My understanding is that Furman is really trying to build a strong program in this area. We'd be interested in hearing from anyone with any experience with it. Thanks.

yes its very good including a real on campus Budhist temple. call or email them and they will send info. They also do study away programs in China

Well, we were finally able to visit Furman. Very impressive. D met with a few people in the Asian Studies dept., including some students and a couple of professors. Our visit also coincided with a visit by the former U.S. Ambassador to China which was sponsored by the dept.

Everyone was great, and the the enthusiasm of the students in the program was evident. D was especially excited to find out that Furman sponsors a two week experience in China for entering Freshmen the summer before classes begin. They also have language houses, a departmental reading room, clubs, and student teaching opportunities in local schools. There are also study abroad programs. So basically, everything she is looking for.
