Thank you ~

Tufts University (ED; legacy): in
Carnegie Mellon (legacy) - in
Cornell University-low reach
Johns Hopkins University- high match/low reach
University of Chicago-low reach
MIT (haha. not getting in.): reach/high reach
Boston University: in
U.Mass Amherst: in

just my two cents :)

I’m really guaranteed into Tufts and Carnegie Mellon?

I didn’t think having a legacy status will have that much of an impact.

The only major thing that could hinder you is the low CR score (there are plenty of Asians with high math and low CR scores applying to all those schools, esp. Tufts and Cornell…)
I basically agree with everyone, Chicago may be a little harder… maybe low reach.

chance back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/745134-chances-southern-schools-lacs.html

you can be first generation, if you have a legacy? That does not sound right.

for the OP, you’re smart. Your CR score is somewhat low, and you have to do better on it, because you know how Asians are. I am an Asian I know!!!

My parents came to colleges here as international students. I think I’m misunderstanding the concept of first generation.

Edit: I still believe I am considered first generation. Although my parents attended to colleges here, they still immigrated here from China.

How are those subpar stats?

Compared with the stats with the students attending in many of the colleges I had chosen, my stats definitely do seem subpar.

SAT II
Math II: 760
Chemistry: 770
Physics: 800

SAT 1430/2230
CR: 630 (such a difficult section for me)
M: 800
W: 800 - essay: 12

GPA
UW: 3.8
W: 4.4

^ None of that is subpar, except for maybe the 630 in CR.

Thank you, you’ve made me feel a lot more confident. I hope what you say is true. It’s just that everyone’s stats seems so much better than mine

bump… more chances please x]

What strikes me about your stats is that your academic endeavors are in the hard sciences, whereas your extracurricular passions seems to be in the arts. Where do you find yourself more comfortable?
I’ve seen far too many people be good at math but hate it- and still ending up in the field because of it.

It is true that I absolutely hate both math and science, but I do have a true passion in computer science for some reason. Programming to me is like a different type of math and is a lot more enjoyable.

I would guess that you’re in at Tufts, and since that’s your ED school, that’s all that really matters.

I’m seriously in for Tufts?

I’ve always want to go there because it’s close to my home, I like their academics, and my mom went there. Showing the rejections of students who received 2300+ on their SATs, the stats profiles on this site is extremely discouraging though.

Yeah- but that could be because they spend all their time on CC!

I agree- you’d be a good candidate for Tufts. You’re an interesting person (read: older post), so I think the adcom will be intrigued with you at the very least. If you have intrigue, you have a better chance of admission.

bump

Can I have some chances for my other schools if I don’t get into Tufts?

You’re not first generation, because your parents went to college, even if it means in your home country, or in the US as international students. Anyway, you’re good enough to go a lot of places. Because if you eliminate first generation, you get a legacy.
