ok what's up with all those asians w/ high SAT math scores?

on my practice tests, i rarely get above 700 on them (math)...they're infinitely harder than the reading and writing sections

btw i'm asian as well

please lets not get into this

Well...maybe in your last life, you were a non-asian. lol :/

why do ALL the other asians rule at math and i suck at it?

lol I admit Asians are smart at math. But I'm the same as you. even though my friends at school say I'm good at math I only score 660-700 on SAT It is due to your knowledge and test taking skills.

every person is different u know

You don't have to be good at math to score high on the SAT math section; and conversely , just because you don't score high on the SAT math section does not mean that you are bad at math.

Next time you do a math test PRETEND that your Asian and you WILL score like an Asian..

I'm telling you it works.

Dude, I know Goleta doesn't have that many asians, but I'm sure you can find some others that also don't have great SAT I math scores.

I don't think there is a genetic predilection among asians to have good math scores.

Not true. i know a few asians that are complete idiots at math and cr.

Um... races doesn't equal how well one does on a certain subject on the SATs. I go to a majority Asian prep school, and since I grade the tests I know plenty Asians who get 500's on the math portions, while others achieve 750+.

flawless advice!!

but for real a lot of it is just the SAT math thats weird. you may be good at math but the way the SAT words questions and the type of questions are just weird dont worry about it just practice and you'll be fine

BTW, here's the link to SAT percentiles by gender or ethnic group ... these are a few years old now.

lol don't think asians must score 700 in every single test.
some asians s*** at math and some american or white students are genius at math

you''llsee, i think you do need to be good at math to score high on the math section, at least the math prinicpals that are covered in the the test

600 and above on the SAT is not bad, I scored 630 which is in the 82 percentile, which means scores similar to this would mean that you still scored better than 82 out of ever 100 people taking the test, not bad at all.

Join your school's math team. It'll really help.

hahaha..i find this thread interesting!! im a taiwanese student in china, and i have to say none if my classmates got below 700 in math section, but the thing is, its VERRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYy hard for us to get a 700+ or even a 650+ in CR section...weird ehh??i got 750 math but 560 CR...i think its due to the difference in education system. asian tend to focus more on math, our math class in high school is said to be math in college level for US students.

^ Not only that; it's the culture! Math is like a man science to some asians.

I have many Asian friends who didn't score above 700 on the Math SAT1.

I also have to say that a high SAT score in Math doesn't mean that you're "good" in Math. Personally, I make a lot of stupid mistakes when I do math (1 + 2 = 2?) which causes my score to drop. I got a 710 on Math on the SAT1, but I got a 770 on the SAT MAth2c.
