Asians as URMs?

No. In fact, Caltech was notorious a few years back for not having any black freshmen.

^haha...so they don't have affirmative action. but i dont really like caltech anyways, the school's environment is said to be pretty bad because of the lack of diversity

Gender "diversity" there is probably the biggest issue...can you imagine that place? They really must start recruiting females. It's 75% male, after all.

Cal-Tech is a great school, though I don't know what the problems are about lack of diversity. As far as I know, everyone who goes there seems to love it and is very close-knit. In fact, many of them find the work environment more rigorous than at places like MIT, which, judging by long posts/arguments in the MIT forum, actively recruits minorities (AA's, Latinos, Nat. Americans, and women who don't fall in the last three categories)

Hmm... I wonder if gender>race at places like Caltech. Given two equally qualified applicants, an Asian female and a Hispanic male, who would they rather accept?

Sam, did you know that there are non-white Jews? I do get your point though.

yea, i know but almost all the ones i know are whites and most of them are lawyers. ;)

i heard that caltech isn't very PC about their admission policy. it's one of the reasons why their SAT is so high.

SATs are racist, anyway.
