Asians at Emory?

Are there any clubs specifically for Asians? How do Asians interact at Emory?

I'm an Asian myself and one of the reasons for my "Why Emory" essay was because of the Asian population.

There are quite a number of Asians at Emory but I Just want to say that Emory prides itself for being diverse. I don't know if your essay should focus on the Asian population as a main reason for going to Emory.

As a student, this is one of the most frustrating parts of Emory campus life. There is an entire Asian population (notably from Korea) at Emory that has no interest in interacting with non-Koreans. They don't speak English, except in class. I've had multiple interactions with them where I was treated with disrespect and disdain. It's the type of thing where I have said hi on an elevator in the library, and they just look at you weird and then continue a conversation in Korean. The Asian 'community' is one of the most exclusive and unapproachable that I have ever seen.

Everyone else seems to get along, except them.

^I've noticed this as well

Well dgebll,
as a Korean myself, I can tell you that it's probably just the difference in culture.. especially between Americans (including Asian-Americans) and Native Koreans. But yeah, I agree with you on the exclusive and unapproachable part. It IS difficult to be friendly unless you can speak the language well.. I guess the only way I can explain this is that you've gotta imagine being in their shoes as if you're in a completely foreign country. you'd probably find confidence with an English speaking group of people.. and unlike this Asian community (unfortunately), you'll probably be more outgoing and friendly due to the fact that that's the American way. (:

it's just a matter of identification.. almost like a clique.

I'm a current Emory student and I can definitely say that I have a LOT of Asian friends (and black, hispanic, middle-eastern, international friends too...the school is SO diverse,) but most of them are Asian-American. I have maybe 4 friends from China and 3 from India, but that's about it when it comes to the international Asians. The Koreans do tend to form a clique (those that came STRAIGHT from Korea, that is) but everyone else is friendly, approachable, and not very self-segregating. There are LOTS of Asian clubs here...I hear about their activities all the time! I can't remember the club names, but there's an Asian Christian club, a Asian association club, Asian awareness club, lots of Asian dance clubs, some Chinese club, Asian medical society, and probably some others too.
