Hi guys,
I’m looking into colleges as I am currently in my junior year, and I was wondering what Notre Dame would like for me.
I’m Asian, and I am Methodist (I grew up Presbyterian). I’m not one of those “anti-social” Asians, I fit in pretty well with whites and others (I live in Minnesota), but I was wondering if there is racism towards Asians at Notre Dame, and if my being Methodist would be an issue there, as I have heard that it is mostly catholic.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
I’m not Asian, but I have many friends here who are (3 who live in China, several more who are Asian-American). All of them do fine here and aren’t treated any differently than anyone else (the single-sex dorm system does a really good job of creating close friendships, especially within sections). There are many Asian cultural organizations, such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and many others.
And the Catholic thing is super non-intrusive. Apart from 2 theology requirements (which are being re-evaluated right now), you’re free to be as involved or uninvolved as you like. Hope that helps!
