Can someone please tell me about the asian population at UCD? I know most of the UC’s are full asians, but which ethnicities? Would you say that there more Filipinos, Koreans, Chinese, Viets, or other asians at UCD? How about international students?

Also, are there any ethnic clubs at UC Davis?

Thanks in advance!

Like everywhere you look there’s asians here. It’s extremely diverse in terms of ethnicities as well. There’s mostly Koreans here, followed up by Viets, Philipinos, and chinese. Haven’t met that many Japanese.
Lots of ethnic clubs! I mean Lots! Korean, Viets etc.

There are a lot of Asians here. For ethnic clubs, there’s the Korean Student Association, the Japanese American Student Society (which I’m a member of, despite not having any Japanese heritage. All ethnic clubs are open to everyone, not just the ethnic group they’re intended for), the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA), the Asian American Association (AAA, or Triple A), the Asian and Pacific Islander Queers (APIQ), the Chinese Student Association, the Filipino Americans in Science and Engineering (FASC) club, South Asian Student Organization, and the Southeast Asians Furthering Education club…and that’s just the Asian ethnic clubs. I haven’t even touched non-Asian ethnic clubs.

I myself am one of the Asian students at UC Davis. :)

Well KevJumba went there

CosmicBubble, it’s interesting that you say that UC Davis is most made up of Koreans, because according to http://budget.ucdavis.edu/data-reports/documents/enrollment-reports/eethnicity_fcurr.pdf it says there are roughly six times as many Chinese students as there are Korean students enrolled in 2012. Are these Chinese students hiding somewhere lol?

Also, do you feel like these different asian ethnicities only mingle among their own ethnicities or is this not the case?

It’s not the case that each Asian ethnicities hang out with only their own ethnicities. For example, I hang out with a mix of Asian ethnicities–I hang out with Koreans and non-Koreans in the So Kpop Club, I hang out with Japanese folks in the Japanese American Student Society club (as I’ve pointed out before, not everyone in the club is Japanese), and one of my roommates is Filipino. There are Asians that definitely prefer to mingle among their own ethnicities because they want to be able to speak their own native language, but not all Asian ethnicities are like that. Again, I’ve mentioned the Asian American Association in my previous response, and that club has a variety of Asian ethnicities.

@Wassupman99,
interesting lol I’m giving my two cents from my experience here though.

To answer your 2nd question Yes i do feel that there are certain ethnicities that mingle with their own ethnicity and I am talking about Chinese students (which might also answer your 1st question as to why I don’t see much of them). I myself am not asian but most of my friends are viet or philipino, I also have a couple Korean friends and no chinese friends which I believe is because they like to click with their own kind due to language and culture.

there are a lot of caucasians (probably 1/2), then asian 1/2 and hispanic students 1/3.

@Cosmic, wouldn’t that add up to a 133% class size?

lol i’m not basing this on 100%
but you can do math if you’d like :P

^I believe the extra 33% accounts for the ethnicities of the cow population at Davis.

JK, I’m transferring there this Fall (hopefully), should be a nice change from Santa Cruz where it’s all White people LOL.

Totally off topic, but, Cinnabon, why are you transferring? My daughter has been admitted to both Davis and Santa Cruz (among other UCs) and is having a difficult time choosing. Would love your thoughts!
