im curious on if there are really 1% Asian in Wake Forest?? Im Korean BTW.. have anyone seen Koreans on the campus?
im kind of scared to step out from Korea in to a new place with no one to connect to.. from what ive read on the boards and on the internet i dont think ill be a majority at WFU
but im very friendly and easy going so hopefully ill meet people who are nice and accepts my diversity..:/

and also is going to Johnson a good idea? i dont drink or smoke, but the "commitment" only applies while im in the dorm.. (is that true? so a person can drink/smoke outside of Johnson?)

and.. what else is there to do instead of partying or drinking? is there a lake near by? i hear there is a mountain that can be hiked.. also is there alot of nature??
im asking one too many questions.. forgive me but i have no one to ask but here x)

also is there a Biology teacher that you would recommend??

the classes i hear they start early at 8am mostly.. is that true? do most people take classes every day? (where is a quiet place to study?)

im asian! i really wanna go to wake forest and if i get in ill definitely go so ill be there to help you out! im pretty diverse (japanese and black) and im sure that if you are just yourself ppl will accept you anyways, no matter where you are from. if not screw them you don’t need them in your life.

since i don’t go there don’t think i can help you out with the other questions. but from what i hear they embrace the asian community. there is going to always be those slightly racist (noncultured) students at every college so to counteract that just ignore them and don’t try to befriend them

My son roomed with two guys from China his sophomore year. They didn’t seem to have any problems socially. I know there was also some kind of “Asian lounge” (not sure what it was really called) that they used to take my son to sometimes (it was located in one of the dorm buildings).

As far as bio professors. My son adored one named Johnson. Said the guy was entertaining, extremely intelligent, great lecturer and very helpful one on one if you asked. (Now he certainly wasn’t easy, but was very good and very fair).

Son spent most of his study time in library. If I remember right it is open 24/7 and has good, quiet niches to hide away in.

mewiow- DO yourself a favor- contact Lilly Proctor, the president of the Asian Student Association. She would be happy to answer your questions firsthand. Her email is
procl8@wfu.edu. I saw many Asian students at Wake last week, but course it was Chinese New Year last week everyone was out celebrating Also, I was in the library on Friday afternoon, and I saw many Asian students in there as well. While Wake may not have the larger number of Asian students in comparative schools, it has nothing to do with not being welcomed, do not listen to hearsay, and contact Lilly, who can put you in touch with real people who attend the school and can share their experience. I was at Princeton University, and did not see one black person there last year, but that does not mean Princeton is not diverse. It was a Saturday morning, and there were not alot of students anywhere. The ones we saw just happened to be white, as was the majority of our tour. On the other hand, when we toured Wake last week, we saw more Asians touring. It just depends on circumstances. Again, do yourself a favor, and contact Lilly- Best of luck, and Happy New Year!

There’s actually more than one Professor Johnson in the bio department. I’ve heard good things about both of them, though I never took a class with either. Frankly, it’s hard to go wrong with the biology professors. I thought all of my professors in the department were fantastic. They were all very dedicated to teaching and always willing to help their students.

As far as 8AM classes, there’s nothing saying you have to take those courses. But I’m one of those people who thinks that you’ll be doing yourself a disservice if you avoid any classes just because of what time they’re given. The two 8:00 classes that I took while I was at Wake turned out being two of my favorite classes.

mewiow- glad to help! One of my son’s best friends who graduated last year is Chinese, (immigrant parents, Chinese spoken at home) I saw him over Christmas, and he had nothing but positive things to say, of course he is what I call a “can do” person! AC1460 is so right, your positive attitude is most important, for their are always going to be a few bad apples in every school. There is definitely a place for you at Wake! Best of luck!
