You know, many Asians aren't "middle class" ;). Of course, there are exceptions.

WOOT! I forgot, our family won $500 for grocery yesterday from a lottery! $500!!! That's enough for years!!

lol, My parents would definitely do that.

And I'm not at all Asian!

haha, it's so funny, before reading some of the threads on this forum, I wasn't really aware of the "inherent" cheepness of Asian parents.

Of the Asians I know at my school, about 6 are very bright, a couple are skaters, and then there are these three girls who wear expensive looking designer clothes and walk around giggling, whispering, and not really talking to other people.

well, yea im asian, filipino to be exact, but i go for the five star notebooks too. i find that since my locker is such a mess the regular notebooks get destoryed under a massive pile of books and stuff lol

does only buying stuff thats on sale count as being a "cheap" asian tho? lol. i like to buy nice stuff and like designer clothes and whatever, but my mom will only agree to it if its on sale. i guess my parents r somewhat cheap then ha

but yea most of my asian friends' parents will buy like a million notebooks or w/e and keep a stash in the attic lol

If you look closely on Target bags, they tell you how to recycle them. Like use it for other stuff.

Like melting them down and then forming a sculpture?

oh god don't even get me started on Asian Cheapness. My mother has totally made me into a bargain fanatic. I have been taught to feel guilty if i buy ANYTHING over like 10 bucks. for example i got jeans a coupla days ago, then we found another pair that was like 5 bucks cheaper and right away its like.. omg we have to buy those cheap ones and return the others!

Haha I've actually done that before.
My dad and his family have a lot of cheepness in them (he grew up on a farm in Mass.).

Hello, my long lost bargain sister. =)
As for the pants, I just did that today. -_-;

haha you have no idea how much i'm laughing as i'm reading these stories. i am literally crying and my stomach hurts now from laughing so much.

All I know that is I'm glad I'm not alone in the whole cheapness thing.

Jean story happens with me all the time. Once I saw a pair of jeans for $3 and then my mom and I were like omg we have to buy this regardless of whether or not it's a good fit. No matter if I have to jump and squirm to get into them, as long as they're $3 and this isn't a pricing mistake.

And everytime Walmart's notebooks are $.10, we overstook on them. No matter if we have somewhere to put them.

haha ditto here, I have an entire box of loose-leaf paper and notebooks in my room...

Well I think the list above is for the extreme Un-assimilated Chinese parents. I know my parents (and yes me too) do these things, but for sure not all. Like I can definetly say our kitchen is not covered by a sticky film of grease nor do we have mossy green fungus growing on our food that has been in our fridge "since the beginning of time". My mom is still stuck in the rut of cheapness, but my dad has officially converted to "normality" and is the one who sneaks behinds my mom's back and buys me stuff :-)

Though yea much of this is typical of the immigrant asian family. but hey, that's what makes us who we are. haha, besides the ridiculous cheapness (coupons?! 50 cents off?! GO GO GO!) I like being asian

I'd say that most of that is true for my family.

man, i love this thread :P

My family does that too. We double bag our stuff sometimes at the grocery store, just so we can have enough of those bags.

Same over here. Russian family :)
