Asians & Duke University

Nope, a full 27% of the class is Asian. So, yeah, there are a LOT of Asians would imagine going to school in North Carolina contrary to your beliefs. Duke isn’t “southern” in culture anyways; it’s a northern bubble that just happens to have nicer weather with southerners off campus (which is why our “friends” at UNC deride us by sometimes calling Duke the University of New Jersey at Durham).

No, it’s not harder to get into Duke as an Asian from MA; it makes no difference what state you are from in most cases unless it’s NC (James B Duke said that the Duke was to serve the people of the Carolinas (thus, SC might even get a slight boost) although he didn’t specify an exact percentage; but applicants from NC enjoy a higher acceptance rate (above 30%) and do get a bit of a boost even though it’s a private school) or a seriously underrepresented state (ND, WY, MT, etc.). Everything else is roughly equal.
