Just wondering, I think the statistical figure is like 90% of all asians are lactose intolerant, but it seems pretty high to me. Then again, I just drank a glass of milk and I feel horrible :(

I wonder if the numbers match up...

I’m not. I never even heard of that stereotype before.

^ It’s not a stereotype. Just when I went to the doctor that’s what she said…at first I didn’t believe her but then I looked it up and it seems to be true.

http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/lactoseintolerance/

but I STILL can’t belive it, so I wanted to see if it holds up on CC

Wow. Now I’m glad I’m not Asian. I love my milk and dairy products.

I’ve seen too much of How I Met Your Mother.

^ HAHAHAHA I love Barney.

I’m Asian, and I’m not lactose intolerant. I like my ice cream :D

I’m Asian too, but i’m not lactose intolerant.

The sterotype holds true to a certain extent because genetically, the enzyme, lactase, was not properly utilized in Asian diet, so a lot of Asians have lost that gene to make lactase, thus lactose intolerance. there is a reason behind it. whoo

omg if i were lactose intolerant i would cry
i love ice cream too much

i’m asian btw

no .

On one trip we went on, nearly all the males we ate with were lactose intolerant–Asians and caucasians. The women, on the other hand, mostly were not lactose intolerant.

I do believe lactose intolerance may be somewhat higher among Asians, especially males. That has been my experience, but it was pretty interesting to us on the trip we went on that all the females were enjoying creamy desserts while the men were mostly envious.

I have never heard this before. Hmm.

But nope, thank goodness I’m not. I really hate milk…but I’ll have it with my cereal because I know it’s good for me.

Yayyyy ice cream.

In my family, My mom (full Asian) is lactose intolerant, as well as my older sister (half Asian). My middle sister and me are fine. I can eat icecream, yogurt, cheese, etc…and used to have milk everyday with cereal, but now when I drink milk by itself my stomach hurts. Late onset? I hope not. I couldn’t live without icecream, lol.

but glad the 90% figure is being proven wrong ;)

Wow, you guys have really never heard of this before? I’ve definitely heard of it…as other people said, Asians traditionally have tended not to eat a lot of dairy products. It’s certainly true among my Asian friends, though this is obviously just anecdotal evidence.

never heard of this
i think like only 2 ppl in my fam are lactose intolerant
though i have like 534654313 members lol

I don’t know anyone in both my immediate family and my extended family who is lactose intolerant.

But since we’re Filipino, we’re not technically 100% Asian.

I’m not Asian but I’m lactose intolerant
and for every1 saying that would suck because you love ice cream or whatever…
you can still eat lactose products u just have to eat a pill

when my doctor told me after i was diagnosed that 90% of Asians had it, it seemed like SUCH a high number…and not many Asians I know have it so I don’t know…

facepalm

90% of Asians -> Most in rural China ;)

I guess it’s because we don’t have a very big Asian population here but everyone I know that is Asian aren’t lactose intolerant?

Hahah yes, probably those in rural China.

Lulz ansar, that’s what I was thinking.

Asian & not lactose-intolerant.

Isn’t lactose-intolerance partially environmentally-determined, since whether/how much of the enzyme you produce in the first place is regulated by how much lactose you consume?
