<– Lactose Tolerant and Asian

lol 1 girl i knew was temporarily lactose-intolerant for a couple weeks because she hadn’t drank milk for awhile

I’m Asian and I know nobody in my family who is lactose intolerant. And being Asian, there are a lot of people in my family.

I would have to agree that, assuming it’s true because I’ve never heard it before, it’s more to do with lack of exposure due to geographic location rather than simply being Asian/genetics or anything like that.

I have a friend who just found out he was lactose intolerant, which I thought was hilarious. but at least, now everyone knows why he always had stomach problems between 3rd and 4th period (our teachers KNOW he has to use the bathroom during that time of the day…every day…). and he’s asian.

I am pretty sure there is a significant group of asians who are lactose intolerant. Most of my cousins can’t drink milk without feeling sick. My mom has always had this belief that drinking lots of milk and eating lots of cheese makes kids healthier. And she thinks this is one of the reasons why asian kids seem scrawny in comparison to the nice, healthy, well-built american kids (i used to get this a lot in elementary school when i refused to drink milk).

is it possible to be -somewhat- intolerant? I know that I have a limit to drinking milk and eating cheese, and it’s not like those dumb competitions where people try to chug a gallon of milk down in a minute. Like after about a cup, I can’t handle the stuff anymore…

^ yeah same here. If I drink too much milk (by itself) I feel sick, but if it’s just a little I’m fine.

I’m Asian and not lactose intolerant…but my father is. I think the 90% figure for Asians is much too high…from personal experience it seems below 50%.

Asian and lactose intolerant (so is my mom)

Funny thing- seems like when I got older I got more lactose intolerant

Went from not drinking milk to not eating yogurt to not eating cheese (?)

^Ditto. 10 char

I am Asian and have heard someone say “Yeah, a lot of Asians are lactose intolerant” at one point in my life, but 90% seems a bit high, unless like someone said they’re all concentrated in rural China or something.

In my immediate family, only my mother is lactose intolerant; the other four of us aren’t.

I’m Asian (100%) and I’m lactose intolerant. It developed when I was twelve or something. I can eat cheese and ice cream. I don’t eat big sevings of those, so I guess the lactose amount is still low. A glass of milk or any flavored milk is going to cause some problems…

I drink milk like water every day : one and a half gallon of skim milk per week.

Lmao I too never heard about this stereotype…interesting.

I’m a white guy who’s lactose intolerant. Genetically, this is very odd considering my northern European background (Swedish).

I am Asian and lactose intolerant. Can’t even stand the sight of milk…
