What are the chances of an Asian American girl getting into a Panhellenic sorority at USC? It just seems like all the top sororities only have beautiful White girls, so I'm just wondering. Thanks!

You are fine, just as equal in chance to the white girls. As long as you show spirit, be interested, and make it throughout the bid process. Even though I’m a guy, I know most sororities are seen as “only for popular, hot white girls”, but it isn’t.

I don’t attend USC, but my school is tied for the biggest Greek system in the country. I’ll tell you, it IS rare to see non-whites in Panhellenic sororities, I’m not going to sugar coat that.

BUT, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t rush if it’s something you’re interested in, or that you’re at a huge disadvantage. Just go in with an open mind, be cheery and talkative, and see which houses like you. That’s all anyone can hope to do in the process, white or not.

I don’t want to start some controversial argument, but I have a friend rushing in a few weeks (my school does spring rush) & I am curious about being in a sorority. Does anyone feel that “discriminatory undertones” exist in the Panhellencic organizations? I’m sure this varies by school/sorority, but I can’t help but be bothered if it really IS true that minority presence (since asians were just previously described) is low for a reason related to traditions/ethnicity. Again I truly am interested & want to become educated since I am considering Greek life :)

You will be fine. SC has a very diverse student body. USC’s rush is very competitive so do get your letters of rec.

If you take a look at the online profiles of the houses I think you’ll see a fair amount of diversity in the photos.

Thanks momma! I am not, nor is my friend, going to USC… so I guess I will have to look @ pics from our respective schools. Still, going off the “don’t judge a book by its cover” concept, pics of individual sororities probably won’t have much weight to me unfortunately. Any other opinions or experiences?
