I’m 12 years old and what is this?

Seriously. ^ I love this thread! I can relate to having to listen to repetitious ramblings for hours.

and what is your point?

I see I see. Good post.

stop whining.

They never compliment me for my grades.

“Good but not good enough… why dont you get 150%?”

Note: Im South Asian, not East Asian. Our parents still are the same.

Have you guys heard of the book about the Asian mom who never allowed sleepovers because they were a waste of time ? Something like " The Battle Hymn of the Tiger mom ". I think mom is a professor at Yale .She is really tough !

Note to the people telling us to stop whining: This is high school. We all go through the phase of “I hate my parents blah blah, they don’t love me spam spam”. The purpose of this thread is for them to open up and express themselves even if it’s in a negative way. We all need to rant some times and keeping it to ourselves only makes us suicidal.

I love my parents and I know they want the best for me. This isn’t a thread complaining about them being permissive but about their personality for a non-American. i.e their English.

It’s suppose to be a fun thread so stop turning it into a rant because it’s not.

i feel that most Asian parents, the very very hardXc0r3 traditional ones are very confident…cocky i would say. lol. example: if you’re chinese, you think that you’re even better than other chinese families if they’re not related to you. my mom often thinks she’s better than other chinese people then she becomes friends/close with them, and together, they talk smack about other chinese families, i find it weirdddd. i think everything dates back to the old days and they want to continue that. such as boys do nothing and girls do everything.

It’s not only people with Asian parents that can relate to this, though I do understand where a couple of the complaints came from. My dad is from Russia, he’s very honorary, and he speaks with really broken English as well, but, I think it’s funny. Hearing him say to my brothers and I, “Hyelllloooooo keeeedos!” is quite calming. I dislike how he says I’m horrible at spelling. Apparently cereal is spelled “serial” and style is spelled “stile”. He wants me to live/work in Russia, and of course he expects me to learn Russian (I can only read it, lol >.<). He doesn’t want me to go to college because he doesn’t want to feel like he has to pay for it. He wants me to join the military, though I NEVER will. He only wants me to go to college if it’s to become a doctor or a nurse practitioner.

& I think ranting like this is fine. Nobody is forcing you to read it. If you have a problem with it, just ignore it.

Asian Parents seem like Puritans minus the religious angle.

I dunno, I think it would be easy to be Asian considering my personality type. When your Asian, all your Asian peers are smart, intellectual, and creative and they expect you to be the same. When your white, your white peers see you reading a book and they go, “NERD!”

…then they punch you in the glasses and take your lunch money. True story.

@Wiscongene

I agree. I’m an outsider amongst my peers for doing my homework.

Hahaha yeah those are the times I’m extremely proud to be Asian. I’m a banana so I can hangout with both my yellow and white friends.

I have No black friends. All my friends are either white or some other race.

I don’t get along with black people. But I don’t really care either way >.>

Oh yeah and I am a black person. So don’t call me a racist cause it’s not lol. I like doing intellectual things and most black people at my school like dancing to some new rap song.

I’m not calling you a racist, but you could be black and at the same time be a racist against black people. I’d imagine that a lot of slaves were racist.

The Asian accent thing is the funniest thing in the world. It cheers me up after getting a 2390 on an SAT practice test and after I failed to memorize the periodic table.

Just because you’re black, doesn’t mean you can’t be racist.

Anyway, it’s not just Asian parents that act like this…

I can relate to most of this stuff (minus the broken English parts).

Anyway, yeah if you don’t like the thread, don’t read it… It clearly says it’s intended for Asians anyway…

I have Asian parents as well, I once believed that my parents had impossible expectations and were, in general, too Asian for my liking.
But you know what? Complaining about it doesn’t really help. If it really irks you, just try talking to your parents. Even though it sounds dumb, it actually really helped. My mom and dad are learning to be supportive and understand the choices I make. Communication is key!
