Quick question, unrelated to the topic…
What is the difference between south campus and north campus?

^^ this is often discussed in the NU forum. try searching the forum. here’s a relevant thread: [North v. South Campus](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northwestern-university/470998-north-vs-south.html?highlight=south+north+campus)

there’s not much of a difference between north and south campus students. maybe the campus look (dorms are nicer up north) but really not much else. a huge chunk of south campus students are sorority girls but they’re also up north a lot. there’s a sizable number of engineers living down south as well. maybe the residential colleges make for a slightly different south campus culture but it’s not noticeable.

I think Northwestern has changed since I went to school there. Other than the long walk between south and north campus, and the long el ride (and change at Howard Street) to get downtown, the complaints are not familiar. It was the U Chicago kids who were socially inept, and I recall many BEAUTIFUL people on campus - particularly given Northwestern’s strength in the Performing Arts.

What complaints are you talking about exactly? the north/south “divide”? i didn’t even know it existed honestly. sure we tend to have more friends on our side of campus just because of the people we’re constantly around, but it’s not like we’re not on friendly terms with people on the other side as well. it’s not like you can tell who lives north and who lives south just by looking at somebody.

The UChicago reputation still holds whether warranted or not. also, NU kids are not socially inept on average. a little nerdy? sure. but in terms of being able to hold a smooth conversation? there’s usually no problem. if you’re comparing the two schools though, we’re definitely way more social, and honestly we get a lot of flack from insecure UChicago kids for that (esp. in the form of trollish posts lol).

There are a lot of beautiful people here. most might not be beautiful face-wise, but most are definitely fit at least. I personally like the pretty girls not in sororities. They’re the best kind haha.

To clarify my negative remarks: I’m not saying we’re awkward compared to U Chicago (god help us if we were). I’m saying we’re awkward compared to the population at large, even the fairly good college population. Of course, its entirely possible its just who I spend time with. I can’t possibly have interacted with even 40% of the student body.

haven’t posted here in a while- i just graduated and am actually starting law school at u of chicago next month, so i guess i’m a bit of a traitor :)

but i do feel the need to disagree strongly with the poster who ranted about the nu administration. i have found the staff on campus to be extremely easy and pleasant to deal with. the registrar always answers emails within 24 hours during the week, student group advisors are readily available when you need them, and the one time i needed to drop a class past the drop-date for personal reasons, i emailed the dean of weinberg and he agreed immediately to wipe the class from my transcript without a ‘w’ appearing. all of my profs have been great and very accessible to undergrads. it’s true that occasionally you will get a crappy T.A.- but I’m pretty certain that will happen at any university.

the ‘el’ does not suck, unless you were expecting to get downtown in 20 minutes (in which case you could take the metra and accomplish just that).

having dealt with the uchicago administration for just a few weeks, i can tell you i’m already missing how easy things are at NU.
