Instead of reopening a thread that’s a few years old, here’s a new thread for if you guys want to ask any BU freshman (or student) questions. So ask away.

Meanwhile here are some sites that might entertain you (because I know when I first got in I visited every single BU related website I possibly could)

Im going to enroll in the spring semester and i was wondering how students who enroll in spring cope? in terms of courses/social life everything in general.
Will i always be 1 course behind from those in my year but were admitted in the fall?

just copied my question from the old thread.

To be honest, I’m a freshman so I haven’t met any Spring transfer students (obviously). I wish I could help you out more though. But if anyone else knows the answer to this question they should post it here…

LJP-Boston’s music scene is awesome. It’s part of the reason I chose BU! There’s a concert hall right on campus called the Paradise; it hosts a lot of great acts. If you’re looking to trek into Allston, there’s the Great Scott and Harper’s Ferry-they often have local bands or indie bands. You can head into Cambridge to see acts at the Middle East-a super cool venue, or TT the Bear’s Room, which is right around the corner. There are bigger places to see music downtown.

Sometimes there are good bands or groups that have shows at the Middle East and even at BU’s very own Agganis Arena.

Or if you meant something leaning more towards shows and raves:
[THROWED (18+) INDIE / ELECTRO DANCE PARTY | Facebook](Facebook)
[Lucky 7even Boston | Facebook](Lucky 7even Boston)

And those are only the places that are super close. Boston is so huge so there are a lot of different venues!

What BU Bailey said. Sometimes jokes are made, but not with the intention to hurt anyone. No on will treat you poorly and you will have just as many friends as the next person. It’s fine :)

do more students apply for CAS than COM? Just a question out of curiousity. Is is common for BU admission to give a student a spot in CGS if they have been denied by other colleges within BU?

xhomefryy, its nice of you to help people out on this board. Would you allow me to lend a hand as well?

CAS is the largest school at BU and is several times greater (in population) than any other school. It also has the most diverse range of majors and course selections. Most people, especially those whose majors are undecided, apply for CAS as opposed to COM unless they know that they will focus on a communications based major.

If one is denied entrance to the other schools at BU or if one shows a slightly less convincing application, a CGS referral is quite likely.

Could you rate the dorms, please? I am afraid that in Warren will be not enough spaces. If it is possible, could you write them down? It would be great if it/they will be closer to the Engineering buildings. Thanks in advance.

how is the student body? if i go to BU i’ll be coming from a small private girls school where everyone is attractive smart rich and plays lax or field hockey. and i don’t exactly fit in. i have tons of friends at my school, but like i still feel out of place most of the times. i was wondering if BU is like this at all? I am hoping for a little bit of a change from the lax culture. I mean i like to party and all, and in some ways i’m preppy – i do the whole north face uggs thing and i run track. but i’m looking for a little bit more of an i don’t know how to put it…intellectual environment maybe but not overly academic to the point where everyone is super pretentious. I guess deep down i’m a nerd…i like to read and i like going to class (most of them haha) but i also like to have fun and i don’t want to be around a bunch of snotty people who think they’re the next Einstein. I didn’t get that vibe at BU at all…got it more at NYU. (nothing against NYU.)

I know since BU is a big school i will find a niche of friends and there are all different types of people to choose from and blah blah… i was just wondering how the student body is as a whole.

i may not be describing what i mean very well.
maybe this will help:
I didn’t apply to BC because i got the sense that it was basically the co-ed version of my high school… great academics but everyone is white suburban rich preppy plays lax or field hockey trashy and drunk. (not trying to bash BC here and i’m super generalizing and throwing out the stereotypes. i know. sorry.) So i was hoping that BU was a little different.

BU has an extremely diverse student body. I definitely wouldn’t say we’re full of preppy people like you described. Honestly, it does make me think of BC too. Across the board, most people are pretty different here. I think it does mostly springs from BU being such a large school. There are lots of students from other countries, across the states, and cultures too. I feel like I have met a bunch of different types of people at BU, which is something I love about being here. At the core, I guess a lot of people have similarities too. I think a lot of us are closet nerds, haha.

From what you described, I think you would find a good group for you at BU. If you join extracurriculars that fit your interests, you will find other people who like the same things much more quickly too.

@ GladKen
anyone can help answer these questions. In fact everyone is invited to do so.

For my housing survey I did
Warren
West
Brownstone
Hojo
Myles

If you do it early enough like now you will definitely get your first choice (like me). I like Warren better because its closer to CAS where most classes are (think about snow and rain and bad weather!). Although people say that students living in West are more chill, better looking and more into parties … I don’t necessarily think that that’s true … ALTHOUGH West is very close to the BU frat parties and the dorms do have a nice view of the field and are close to the gym… Still, I prefer Warren.

@ 201126: BU is so so so diverse. I cannot even begin to explain how diverse BU is. You will definitely find your clique and your niche (although for some it may take a while, but the wait will be well worth it). There are always a mix of people. Not everyone needs to party to have fun, not everyone smokes weed, not everyone is into hockey, etc. Although BU is very diverse I think its worth mentioning that BU girls do dress very nicely!

Hi, sorry to post this twice but it might have gotten looked over last time,

Does anyone have any information about the Hospitality school/program?

Also, Will BU look at my SAT scores if i don’t have subject tests? I submitted the ACT with writing so i have fulfilled the requirement, but i am taking the SAT on January 23rd and am sending my scores directly to a few schools, Boston University included. So will they even look at my scores?

How is the Communications program? I’m particularly interested in the Mass Communications program…and the photojournalism one. (Is it possible to do both) And how do students do with employment after getting their BA?
