Ptoxen, if by the aquatics center you are talking about the Fitness Center, it is right next to West Campus dorms. The T runs right down Commonwealth Avenue though, so you can easily hop on and get to a number of the other dorms including Warren. There is a map inside your acceptance folder usually.

BU gives credit for a score of 4,5 on AP Macroeconomics. If I were to obtain a score of 3, can I place out of the course and take a harder course and not get the credit?

hey, can someone give me information on housing for transfers. I’ll be a junior but as of right now I’m a soph in credits. I don’t want to live with freshman but I want a social dorm where I have a chance to meet people. Any suggestions?

I lived in Warren my freshman year and my sophmore year I lived in Hojo. I would say HoJo is a great place for you to live to meet people. But honestly if you are social you’ll meet most people in your classes.

Our DD lived in Sleeper (West Campus) this year. She had planned to move elsewhere, but sophomores have the worst lottery numbers. Ultimately, a whole group of them is staying in Sleeper (my daughter even in her same room!) Best cafeteria - next door to FitRec, good friends… not such a bad choice!

Hi! I’ll be attending BU as a freshman this coming year. I was admitted to CAS, and I’d like to get some opinions: which is better/do you prefer, the Core or divisional studies?

This is the general consensus on core. Do it if you have no AP credits. If you have AP credits go for divisional studies!

I have an unusual question that I’m not sure if any of you have the answer to, but if you can provide any extra information it will really help!

My brother was accepted to BU this year with an extremely generous financial aid package, both online and in letter form. Sounds great, he accepted the aid package and sent in his deposit. That was before May 1st, the deadline. Just today he got an e-mail saying they had reviewed his financial aid package and changed it. He went to the BU financial aid website and they dropped his financial aid by more than 20k. There has been no physical letter mailing. On the website it says he now has until June 14 to accept the package or decline.

My family can’t afford to pay more than 20k. We wouldn’t have accepted at all if we had known his aid would change so drastically before he had even enrolled. Is this legal? We are going to call the financial aid office tomorrow, but is there anything else we can do?

Thanks. Any and all advice appreciated.

The usual reason when they change your financial aid is because you only submit your estimates on the FAFSA, and then later send in your final tax returns for verification, and they adjust it based on the differences there. I reported some outside scholarships I had gotten, and they dropped it a little.

So unless there was a big mistake on your FAFSA, I would hope that it was simply a mistake by the fin. aid office.

I don’t really have any knowledge of the financial aid workings other than recieving it myself though, so I would definitely advise you call and explain your situation.

Either way, good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Any idea of when the Financial Aid Office will be sending out the aid packages for returning students? How consistent are Scholarship/Grant Awards from year to year?
Thanks!

Does BU have a medical amnesty policy? I know they haven’t in the past but I can’t find much information regarding the policy today…

I’m entering BU in the fall as a freshman in ENG (Undeclared), and I need to get a computer. I poked around on the BU website, but couldn’t find any suggestions or system requirements for laptops. To the current ENG students: What do you recommend?

Does BU Have a Glee Club?

Does anyone know anything about the Towers dorms on Bay State Rd? My D, an incoming freshman, was assigned there and it was not one of the top 5 choices she put down. I’ve heard people mentioning direct switches. How does this work? Could she possibly call on the housing people on Monday to request a switch? Also, she will be going to CGS so it is quite a distance from those dorms, she really wanted West dorms.

Towers is a quieter dorm on Bay State, with single sex floors. Quite a few freshmen live there! But if your daughter is considering switching, I believe she might have to wait 2ish weeks into school, fill out a form that you can get in the housing office/the residence life office, and post in the dorm she wants to live in. There will definitely be people that want to switch with her. I would contact the housing office to clarify, though.

And even if she gets stuck in Towers, it’s really not that bad. She has a whole floor to socialize with! And Bay State Road is beautiful, I lived in a brownstone there last year. She is also close to the new dining hall.

@westie22: calling in on monday probably wont do anything to help, but she can request a direct switch. ive never done it so i wouldnt really know how to, but i think people post near the rha office where they currently live and where they would switch. then people contact eachother and switch?

towers is nice and most freshman are generally grouped together

(sorry for the lack of caps, shift key is broken)

Quick question. Is it doable to have back to back classes that are both in east campus. How much passing time is there. I believe one is in CAS and the other is in FOB. Just trying to decide if i should switch spanish class sections so that i have more time in the morning for a work-study job if that’s when i get hired for or if i should leave it so theres an 90 min break between my classes.

It’s definitely doable to have back-to-back classes, especially if they are both in East Campus. There is a 10 minute passing period between class periods, so if you have one that is supposed to go from 12:30-2, it will end at 1:50.

If you leave a 90 minute break and it’s at an awkward time (like not around breakfast/lunch) it has been my experience that I don’t get any work done in between. So I’d recommend keeping the back-to-back classes!
