Ask a BU Student (2011)

@LaLaZz: Warren, Towers and West definitely don’t

I’m not sure if this was answered already, but does anyone have a clue when BU will be releasing roommate info?

@loveology:
Quote from a recent e-mail from BU Housing:
“In early July, we will send you confirmation of your residence assignment (including roommate information) and details about fall move-in.”

What were your grades in high school (SATs, gpa, SAT II’s, etc.)? Also, what EC’s did you do? Sorry if this was asked already.

by ‘you’, i mean everyone that got accepted to bu.

Search this forum for the class of 2015 acceptance threads. There is one for ED and regular decision.

hi, I’m going to Boston College and I’m new to this bc vs bu thing! Both are really great schools and I even have a few friends going to bu. My question is … How is the relationship between BU and BC. They are almost 4 stops apart and I know you see each other a lot. My first suggestion, comming from BC students was that the schools didn’t get along. Any word?

mohamed2015, bu and bc are just traditional rivals. not to say bu and bc kids can’t be friends, i have quite a few friends at BC. but during hockey games, it’s intense. from my perspective, it’s like the rivalry between sports teams; for example, the yankees and red sox. just because i’m a sox fan, doesn’t mean i can’t be friends with a yankees fan or get along with one but somehow some kind of dislike towards them arises during games or in any competitive environment. the beanpot when bu and bc play is really intense, you should definitely go. i’d say that’s when the not getting along is to the max.

The hatred is just built in the moment you move to campus. When you meet someone from BC, you always get the thought of “UGH” even though there is no reason for it. It is only a rivalry so do whatever you wish.

Hi! I’m going to apply to BU and I know I want to major in neuroscience and human physiology. Does that mean I enroll in both CAS and Sargent or just one?

Please tell me about the wonders known as Frats and Sororities!!!

@mohamed2015: My best friend goes to BU and I’ve seen her maybe 5 or 6 times. It’s a 30 minute commute and quite a few stops so it can be a bit annoying.

@BlackRose101: Sororities rush 2nd semester. Frats rush first semester. Frat houses are not owned by the school - they are simply houses that frat members just so happen to live in. The downside of that? Since it’s not owned by the school the BU frat houses are grimy, dirty, gross, far and not made as a frat house (aka single bathrooms, not stalls, etc). The frat houses are around Gardner St which you can get to through the Packards Corner stop on the green line. Usu girls are free or $5 and guys are $5-10. The rest you will figure out… If you have more specific questions I would be able to answer you better.

@xcgirll: No clue, sorry. call in or something?

I was assigned a triple in warren tower B. how exactly are these rooms set up. bunk beds? are they bigger than regular doubles? thanks.

@kapitolk: Warren towers used to have quads. These were deemed inhumane so they were changed to triples. If four people have been living in those rooms fine for many years, I’m sure you will be fine in there as a triple  So, since this is the first year they are doing triples instead of quads I’m not sure how the set up is.

But I’m thinking it will be three lofted beds with a desk and drawer underneath the bed for each person and then wardrobes for each person. I am thinking they are more spacious or the same as doubles.

Oh and probably a microfridge or something if you guys opt for that thru the school.

Oh thank you. I was sort of worried because I have a triple in Shields. At least it won’t be overcrowded…ish

I don’t know what to expect and I didn’t get a chance to look at the room, so I don’t really know how to prepare. Is there anything special that I should know about the triples?

xhomefryy

Thank you for the info.

I was in a quad in C tower (Shields) in Warren last year! You are so lucky they are triples! The quad had two lofted beds (with dressers and desks underneath), along with one bunk bed. There were wardrobes for each person. My roommates and I rearranged the furniture so we had a TON of floor space, so i’m sure you will have even more! You have a great view of south campus, but are right above Mass Pike/Storrow Drive (I think that’s the road) along with train tracks so you do hear that (but get used to it). If you stood in the corner of my room and looked out the window, you could also see Fenway Park at night.

Does anyone know when the work-study preplacement site should go up? My parents keep getting on my case about getting a job, and telling them I’ve got a job lined up for school might shut them up, lmao.

They usually send you a letter notifying you. Comes much later in the summer though.

Hi I’m an incoming freshman in CAS and I just got my housing assignment: Myles Standish Hall. I get the feeling that I sort of got lucky as a freshman since I have my own room in a suite. I hear that Myles is a “mature” place to live, which I like. I was just wondering what the general atmosphere is like, and also what the dorms look like. I love the fact (I think) that it is an old builing, which I assume is part of the charm. Any thoughts on Myles Standish?
