Ask a current GW undergrad

^ I don’t plan on drinking either!! Just a personal choice~

do students at the Elliott school interact with CAS kids? or are they completely seperate like social/party and class wise? and is Elliott school in the same Washington Campus?

They interact. Absolutely. I speak from personal experience.

PatriotsFan54 - #1: I have friends who don’t drink for various reasons and absolutely still have very active social lives. There are always things going on during the weekends, on and off campus, that don’t revolve around drinking. (There’s also substance-free housing available if you’re interested in that.)

2 - I would say the GCRs are about the same as any other liberal arts university. They vary between colleges (i.e., students in the Elliott school have a bigger foreign language/culture requirement to fill) but it’s definitely manageable. If you stay on top of it, most students finish their GCRs by the end of sophomore year. AP and IB credits from high school transfer and those definitely help if you have them.

ellomeno - They definitely interact. I’m in Columbian and I have a lot of friends in Elliott. And yes the Elliott school is on the Foggy Bottom campus.

Is GWU a gay friendly school??

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC App

Hello All. I applied as a transfer student for admission into the Elliott School. I have 56 credits under my belt at a CC w/ a 3.5 GPA. I am one Statistics course shy of an A.A. in liberal arts. I have served over nine years of active duty and I am on the board of a local non-profit. Does anyone think these stats worthy enough for admission? I wish you all the best of luck.

Hey,

So this is kind of a weird question, but I was just thinking about it as I was researching dorms. I play piano, and I’m not planning on majoring in music or anything like that, but I was wondering if you know if any/which dorms have pianos or piano lounges in them? I noticed that it is sometimes mentioned when dorms are discussed, but I’m curious as to the availability of the instruments. Thanks so much!

Hi I was accepted to the business school with a little bit of scholarship
and i’m korean.

i lived in california all of my life and i was wondering if there is any kind of racism…?

thank you!

PrinceMuzic: GW is extremely gay friendly. A pretty liberal school.

kirringer: I know thurston has a piano. I don’t live there though and have no idea if people actually use it. I don’t think any other dorm as one.

sa304bir: Not at all really. It would be shocking to see any outward signs of racism.

kirringer: I know Crawford has a piano.

But I have a question, can you request a single on the housing application form? Can you request a specific floor or even a specific room?

You cannot request anything other than a building and a roommate. You will be assigned a room type. How you can request a single room however is by requesting Mitchell Hall, which is all single rooms with mostly communal bathrooms. You will almost definitely get placed in Mitchell if you request it.

I have another question!!
i got accepted to the business school i was thinking madison for dorms…
if i put madison as my first choice, am i guranteed to get madison?
and also i just read your reply that you will be assigned a room type, but what if you don’t want the room type you are given?

thanks!

If you don’t like what you get then the only way to change is by doing a room swap, which is when people post their rooms onto the online program and you can trade.

Unless you applied ED, you are not guaranteed to get in Madison, but not as many peeople request compared to Potomac.

Of the Entering First-Year Students:
12% live in single rooms; this includes West Hall Suites
47% live in double rooms
4% live in triple rooms
27% live in quads
2% live in five person suites
8% live in six person suites
76% live on Foggy Bottom Campus
24% live on Mount Vernon Campus
44% live in Thurston Hall

All right. Here’s a question: how is the English department? Any friends, or friends of friends major in English? I know I could go to the website and look things up, but that only tells me so much. And also, what have you heard about the Music department?

PrinceMuzic - absolutely, everyone here is incredibly accepting and open-minded

kirringer - west hall on the mount vernon campus has music studios (with pianos, I’m pretty sure) on the lower levels. I live in Madison and also like to play the piano, and the music department is in Phillips Hall which is right across the street (you just have to get a pass to go use the practice rooms)

sa304bir - I have yet to see any kind of racism here. GW has a very diverse student body.

sa304bir - You’re not guaranteed a dorm unless you applied ED. Madison is a popular freshman hall because of its location but it’s not as high demand as Potomac. All of the rooms in Madison are a nice size, so I doubt you would get a room that you didn’t like. (The quads are basically two doubles that share a bathroom and kitchenette.)

Vot123 - I considered majoring in English, I’m probably minoring in Creative Writing though. The English department is great, I know people majoring it in (they also offer an English and Creative Writing major, but it requires a specific application in order to declare). I have had a great experience thus far with professors in the English department.
Music is also not what GW is most known for, but there are a lot of talented students and the professors are great. I play in the band and it’s more laid-back than other schools’, but it’s a lot of fun. There are a lot of courses you can take in the music department (you can also apply for the Presidential Arts scholarship, if you’re interested in minoring in music/art/theater).
