Ask a current MSU student anything!!!

1.What do you think of Holmes, Hubbard, and Holden hall?

I sent my transcript 16th of Sep. and it's still awaiting =(. fa-la-la-lena how long did it take for you? Also when I check under app status, it says they are reviewing my app. Could this mean they have the transcript but didn't update it yet?

If you are not doing Lyman Briggs I would suggest living in Holden. The lobby was remodeled last summer and the rooms have new loftable furniture. I live in South Complex and it is definitely a great place to live. Holmes houses the most students on campus (around 1200) and Hubbard is the tallest residence hall (12 stories).

Petlee1, I applied last year around the same time as you. I remember they had an early decision deal where if you applied by October 5th you would hear a decision by November 5th. I found out I was accepted the weekend before Halloween.

Well I plan to apply to Michigan State in 2010.

I actually like Brody somewhat, although it's community bathrooms... and the last time I past the campus I notice how far Brody is from everything. Hubbard seems sorta nice, along with Holden and Holmes. You mention if I'm not going to apply to Lyman Briggs that you suggest Holden. Well I plan to major in pre-med or take the courses...but if the majority of my classes will be in Holmes... then I would prefer Holden. Who would only want to walk down a hall/ below a floor just to get to class. Experience of having to walk from one place to another is much better to me.

I've heard hubbard is a dump right by the rape trail where many of the freshmen get housed, far away from many things. Like msuspartan said it is 12 stories tall, but does at least have good food (or so I've heard). Holmes is a little bit better; that would be where all the lyman briggs students are housed with the majority of their classes. Holden is a nice dorm except they have inconvenient cafeteria hours (not open during breakfast or weekends); I would definitely recommend getting on South complex (holden, case, wonders, wilson) because of its great location right by the stadium.

As far as transcripts go, wait at least 4 weeks before worrying. I think it takes a while, especially since they have a massive volume of applications.

I live in Hubbard. It's alright, but it's kind of far away from everything. There's a bus stop right out in front of the south entrance, which is really nice. The caf is one of the better ones on campus. I live on the first floor so I don't have to deal with the elevators :) The main problem I have is that I'm in marching band and Hubbard is as far away as you can get from Dem Hall.

I definitely wouldn't call it a dump.

How likely are you to be put in a residental hall that you aske for?

Also are my chances of admission for Michigan State University good so far? Without taking the ACT yet, I have a 3.7 overall GPA and was part of the science club for 2 years. Took honor classes, and currently taking 2 ap classes as a junior. I've also was sent a invitation to National Honors Society and will see if I get admitted. Life long resident of Michigan as well.

Wow, I know someone who stays on the first floor, west hall and suite mate is in the band.

^ You're fine as long as you keep up that GPA and score in the mid-high 20s on the ACT.

How's the Music Therapy program?? Thx.

the chances of getting into the dorm you ask for depend on which dorms you want, and when you send in your housing app. for example if you pick your top 3 to be shaw, snyder phillips and mason-abbot, the chances of getting into any of those as a freshman are very, very small, unless you're in the residential college of arts and humanities [snyphi], or you're part of the business program [shaw]

on the other hand, if you want to be somewhere like hubbard, brody, etc, the chances of you getting your top choice is a lot greater.

most freshman get put in brody.

Yeah, If I was accepted Brody would be one on the top of my list (although I like Holden, Hubbard, and Holmes floor plan better.) Since I sorta like the building ( at least for freshmen year) but the community bathrooms is not so well, along with it being away from everything on campus. Your almost isolated from everything... but it's not like you would be stuck there for your sophomore year as well.

When I finish my junior year I would like to know whats the best time to apply? Don't mind applying as early admission... since this is my top choice school.

Oh yeah which are the halls that decorates and prepare to give candy out a few days before Halloween? When I was younger I use to go tricker treating up at Michigan State and everything seem so big, I can't remember the hall. I think it was like shaw, synder etc....

Hubbard does the trick-or-treat thing.

Oh wow really, well my sibling who stay in south hubbard hall first floor told me she doesnt think they do. Also her suite mate is in the band...

That's crazy, I live on South's first floor and I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on the floor that's in the band. We are doing the trick-or-treat thing for sure, it was discussed at our floor meeting on Thursday.

Oh wow my sister A...... who majors in pre-nursing think she might know you, her suite mate is in the band... and she said she is the only one on the floor.

Well thanks for telling me Hubbard does the trick-o-treating because I really wanted to know, although I'm sure there is some other halls because I remember traveling from one spot to another and it wasn't Hubbard.

Holmes Hall does trick-or-treating.

Akers also does trick or treating :)

You have the same GPA I had, just make sure you get above a 21 on your ACT and you will be golden.

I got the first dorm I requested (Wilson), but I applied early. If you apply early and request South Complex there is a great chance you will get it.

Coolbrezze: I'm pretty sure I'm suitemates with your sister. That's a crazy coincidence.
