ask a current penn (wharton) freshman a question

fuzzy:
i have a pretty crappy fake, so i am somewhat limited in terms of bars and clubs, but i probably go out 3 days a week to bars, clubs or frats. then maybe 1 or 2 times a month ill go for monday night football at a frat. probably only 2 or so nights of killing time in the dorm(like mon or tues) because i'll have meetings or just work to do. but, there are a lot of people here (probably like 40%) that don't really leave their room

bojangles: in the essay, use experience to show that penn and only penn is the ideal fit. compare the characteristics of your personal story to a characteristic of penn's. finally, put in lots of effort

Do people at Wharton have enough time for dating?

cougar: Its all about time management. You can probably be in a relationship if its low maintenance but you will find yourself stressed if you are in the very close, 3hrs on the phone a night kind of thing

dlesk's time and ability to go out 3x a week will drop 2nd semester and go steadily down from there into sophomore and junior years.

Not just time and ability, but also energy and interest. It gets old, especially as you start to develop more meaningful friendships and start to realize your long-term goals. Freshman year is just different.

Questions like these are honestly quite silly. Have you really heard it's that hard? It's just school, ffs.

I agree. He did drop Legal Studies, which can be a very hard class.
Most people spend much more than 2 hours a night doing course readings and homework. If you see all the study rooms are booked solid every day and people bringing pillows and blankets to the library to hunker down for the night (albeit it's a mix of socializing and working ) it makes you feel very insecure about spending only 2 hours on your coursework.

For the most parts, Whartonites work hard and are very serious students.

Is it true that you need an 800 on Math II to get in?

I don't think so.

Yeah you don't need an 800, but you need to show strong quantitative ability somehow.

but what is required is calculus

im not sure that calculus is required, but rather just recommended..

I am taking Calculus AB in school and studying to take the BC AP test. Is this recommended? Is it just a waste of my time, or will I be happy I got the Calc 2 credit?

i only got the ab credit and i got into wharton.

now assuming you are applying to wharton...from what ive heard it is good to get the calc 2 credit because the math 104 (BC equivalent) class is very tough.

How is your MGMT100 class? Does anyone seem excited and ready to work as a group?

^ good q i was wondering the same thing

Personally, I think MGMT100 is a good idea in principle, but not in practice. The lectures are relevant as we learn about management, negotiation, conflict resolution etc. but the project itself is basically a nuisance. Some projects are better than others, but a lot of the projects involve a lot of grunt-work, like knocking on doors, making phone calls etc...and not real management. Seems like a lot of the really good projects were used up in the first few years and now we just get what is left over.

That being said, people do get along and work well together. Its interesting because obviously everyone in your group is a leader in some respect, but people all get along and share the work. There isn't really one person who tries to dominate

in terms of math:

you need to be pretty good in math to get in. the few people i have spoken to have 800 on either the SAT math or the SAT subject test in math.

in terms of high school:
you should take the hardest math that your school offers. the wharton program requires the equiv of calc bc...but a lot of people only took AB or got less than 5 on the BC test so they take that one semester calc course. that being said, do all you can to avoid taking that class. it is by no means an easy A because of the curve...

I'm sure you've heard this question thousands of times, but what kind of stats do you think are necessary to get in? What were yours? ...and if I only had a 750 on the SAT I math but I got an 800 on Math 2, would that make up for my 750

Sup dan.

Jela, I'm sure you've seen the stats on CB. I'm pretty sure you fall in the range so you're fine.

How much will I be penalized for a grammatical (idiomatic) error on my short essay (penn professor)? I know you're not an admissions officer, but I still want your opinion.

I was cutting the essay to 1000 characters (ended up getting 1000 exactly) and forgot a stupid preposition.
