Ask A Current RU-N Student

Hello, my name is ASJackson, & I go to Rutgers University- Newark. I’m a Computer Science major. I made the right decision in coming here.

I’m more than happy to answer questions about
-Registration
-Admissions
-Financial Aid
-The undergraduate schools(Newark College of Arts/Sciences, Rutgers Business School, School of Criminal Justice, School of Public Affairs & Administration)
-Anything else regarding campus (on and off-campus housing, campus buildings, campus foods, sports teams, etc)
-Answer questions about Newark, NJ and surrounding areas
-Answer any questions about Rutgers New Brunswick/Piscataway, Rutgers Camden, or NJIT

Rutgers Newark is an great university. It’s not just a fork of the bigger New Brunswick/Piscataway Campus, it has a community of it’s own. Our campus is very diverse(in fact it’s ranked the most diverse national university on USNews) & is a Division 3 School. Total Enrollment is 11,800(with 7,800 undergrad)

Hello. Thank you very much for doing this Q&A!

I was wondering about:

1: What made you choose Rutgers - Newark over Camden and NB?

2: When did you find out that you were accepted?

You’re welcome.

  1. I originally applied to Rutgers NB but I did not get in. After that I emailed NB & Newark about how I can still apply to the Newark campus, so than I applied to the Newark campus.

I had no interest in attending the Camden campus, it was the further away from me than the other 2(15 min NB,45 min NWK,1hr & 1/2 Camden), & it was a too small for my preference(Camden’s 6,200 vs Newark’s 11,800 vs NB’s 38,000)
, as I prefer large & medium sized campuses. I am also not a fan of Camden,NJ at all.

  1. I found out my acceptance a week or two after I applied(I applied late, in February)

Oh awesome, if you were to transfer schools how hard would it be to do so and what school are you currently in now?

what was your original gpa and sat scores when you applied

It depends on the school. I’m assuming you are talking about Newark to New Brunswick.

For the School of Arts/Sciences, you need a 3.0 & need to take English Composition 2

For the Business School you need a 3.5 GPA & need to take English Composition 2
, it’s harder to transfer to the Business School than the others

3.3-3.4 GPA 1450 SAT(out of 2400)

What is college life like on the weekends? Does everyone go home?

Some weekends, but most of the time there’s a good amount of dormers.
