Hi guys!
Im currently a senior at FIT. I have an associates in Advertising and Marketing Communication and am currently getting my bachelor degree is cosmetic and fragrance marketing.
If anyone has any questions for me feel free to ask away! I would love to help!
Hello! Thank you for being willing to share your experience at FIT. I made a separate thread about this, but heck! Did you ever have a part-time job while you attended FIT for your associate degree? If so, was the job difficult to balance with schoolwork?
Plus, what about dorm life? Do people tend to follow the quiet hours? Or can the halls get pretty loud late at night?
For reapplying to FIT for your bachelor degree, was the process faster than applying for your associates? When do you reapply? Would it be possible to start the bachelors program during the summer semester before the first fall semester?
Sorry for all the questions…but thank you for the help in advance!
How have you been liking AMC? What is it like? I’m in FBM and I want to transfer to AMC for my bachelors. I loved my advertising and marketing classes.
Sorry for the late reply! To start off with, YES- I have had a part time retail job since the summer before going into college and have maintained it until now (4 years later) At some points I have had 2-3 jobs at once, while going to school. It’s do-able as long as you are willing to put in the work. At times it was hard just because I had close to no social life between going to school and working, but I wouldn’t have done it any differently. I wasn’t willing to give up making money, which I relied on so much. You just have to learn how to prioritize your work because if not, it can become hard.
Secondly- I did not dorm, I commuted, but most of my friends dormed and my cousin actually dormed as well. For the most part I believe that the dorms are pretty quiet and you shouldn’t have a problem concentrating on school work. Everyone there is pretty respectful because everyone takes there school work seriously. Of course if there was ever a problem you could always bring it to your RA’s attention and have them handle the situation.
Third- Yes, reapplying for your bachelors degree is super easy, and takes about 5 minutes. You do it all online. I believe you only have to answer a few questions and thats it. If I remember correctly you apply to your bachelors two semesters before. So in your second to last semester of your associates degree (in the Fall) …I’m not positive, but I believe you can only start your bachelors in the Fall and not the summer but I am not sure if that is true. You probably can start to take some of your liberal art classes that you need for your bachelors during the summer and then leave all you major required classes for the Fall.
Hope this info helped! Let me know if you have any other questions.!
@ebs1995 I only have been through my associates for AMC and I really liked it. It was great because the things you learn can be applied to so many different areas- not just fashion. As far as the bachelors goes for AMC I am not sure, but I do know that they do a lot more media related things for the bachelors degree. They have classes like studio production, computer applications, data analysis, brand management, and PR classes. The associates for AMC is more based on advertising and marketing principles and the bachelors degree is more media based where you actually work in a studio with cameras and stuff like that. If thats something that interest you then do it! If not you can probably always take advertising and marketing based classes as electives. I would say meet with your advisor and discuss what your options are, they are always a huge help.
Hey! Kind of stressing because I know that I don’t need ACT scores for the admissions process, but do I need scores to get placed into general ed. classes? I took the ACT back in September, but didn’t do the writing which the website says is required. Eek Thank you!!
hey, I think the only classes they use the SAT or ACT scores for would be math. I’m not sure about english though. If the scores you have can’t be used I believe they make you take a placement test at FIT so they can know where to place you depending on how well you did.
Hey there! Thanks so much for this thread, it helps a ton! Anyway I was wondering how heavy you workload was your first two years of college? I am considering running at FIT but also want to have plenty of time for school, so about how many hours of homework did you have a night? Also what you say helped you get into FIT, or how did you get in? FIT is my dream school and I want to make sure my application stands out so I can get in. Thanks so much for your help!
@collegeadvicegg1 Hey! I’m glad you find this helpful! The first two years the workload wasn’t a ton. I feel like for the most part teachers don’t give homework assignments for every class. Usually the only work you will have will be for any project/group projects you might have for that semesters. Most classes will have 1-2 projects, But this all depends on you teacher and how they like to run the class. Like I said in a response above, all throughout college I worked, and at times it was tough especially around midterms and finals. But if you are willing to put in the work you should be perfectly fine! I think its great you want to join running, and I think you will have no problem managing school.
Also my best advice would be to have a great essay that really showcases why you are a great fit for FIT and why you want to go into the major you are applying for. Don’t have the essay be a bibliography about your life, rather, make it like a story. Maybe you were inspired from a young age and thats why you love fashion or art. I think the essay is the most important eve before they look at the grades. Also I would suggest having everything ready to go when applying. Make sure you know exactly what you need and when the application is open to apply. I applied within the first few days of it being available and I think thats the best choice. So many people apply to this school so it’s more of a first come-first-serve basis. Have teachers, friends, family and school advisors help you as much as you can with everything! they can be a big help.
Hi, I’ international student and currently applying to Production Management. I have few questions.
1, I think I’m going to submit transcript Feb 3rd, because of my WES problem. It’s only a 3 days late, but will I get an acceptance/reject letter late April?
2, I have never seen people who apply Production Management. How is the rate of PM students in FIT? And this means PM is not competitive as AMS or FB?
3, How is the international students late at FIT?
4, Is there any students who work company after AS and come back to get BS?
