Ask a Current Student Anything

that awkward moment where everyone else BUT the person who started this thread answers questions :/

but anyway, is it possible for someone to appeal their FA if they’re ED? (its not me btw, I love my FA package :)) )

^ Yes, it’s possible, but it can’t be just because the FA didn’t meet your expectations. You would have to prove that you cannot afford to attend even with the FA package.

Hey im currently a student that lives in freshman and the rumor about thurston being “crazy” isnt so true. Yes it can be loud sometimes but its not what every one makes it out to be. The beginning of your first semester, its going to be crazy because people want to keep the reputation that it has been given so you will see alot of emerges first semester. However, you can definately study without a problem. I party, cheer, and still made deans list.

Any advice for students thinking of living at Mt Vernon?

Do you really think that the education is worth the $60,000? I am not getting any Merit or Need Based money so i have to pay sticker price. I don’t know if i can bring myself to pay a quarter million for an undergraduate degree

You’ve been admitted?

No. I am expecting it though (knock on wood)

Sent from my DROIDX using CC App

I can see why your asking that though based on my aid statements. I didnt apply for need as my family’s efc is too high and im not competitive for any big merit money

afaik nobody should take on more than 6 figures of debt for their undergrad degree. if they actually want you, they’ll give you money. if they admit you but charge you sticker i’d say thanks but no thanks. if your parents will pay for it anyway then it doesn’t really matter and go wherever you like the most.

@SouthofAlter I live on the vern right now. It’s quiet and there aren’t a lot of people. But that’s to your advantage when you want to study; it sure beats Gelman Library on foggy bottom. If you plan on partying, head to foggy bottom. There aren’t a lot of food options here as opposed to foggy bottom. That’s just my opinion though. Some people I know like the vern’s food. When you have to leave for foggy bottom, leave 30min early. It takes about 20min to get to foggy bottom, but those 10min might be needed for traffic, especially if the president is nearby. Also, sign up for the vern express txt message updates; they help you plan your schedule a lot. When planning your classes, be sure to try to find classes on the vern and leave ample time for traveling.

Is there a really big political feeling on campus?

Pretty much. We are very close to the White House after all!

I know greek life is big, could you give a description of each of the sororities?

You’re better off reading up on the sororities on the Greek Life website. No one can give you an unbiased view of sororities here, because we all have at least one friend in a sorority and you tend to like them more than others. Reading up on them yourself is the best way to figure it out, as their websites tend to be 95% truth and 5% acceptable ego-boost.

Can anybody tell me about the general curriculum requirements? like classes that fulfill those requirements? is there a decently broad range?

I have a question: GWundergrad15, what happened to you? You started this thread, and then never answered a single question. Are you OK?

^ I second this.

Does anybody know if we can loft beds in the freshman dorms? (I mean with a bed on the top bunk and empty space beneath it)

I hear DC partying is expensive. What’s your estimate on how much you spend on alcohol/ other partying endeavors in a month?

it is not worth 60k full pay.
