ask a current student anything

According to this: Political Studies – Social Science; MSU’s politcal science department is rated 12th in the world, Michigan is at 27th.

Shakes head. Oy vey. No Michigan is NOT necessarily the better school. More prestigious? Perhaps, but their honors college kids have higher stats than UMich’s students and the political science department is ranked higher.

Don’t buy into the hype about UMich. I am speaking as someone who was a U of M fan her whole life, got in, and then chose State over UMich without so much as a second thought.

Interesting. Why did you choose State over U of M? We sound like we’re in similar situations. With the goal of Law School in mind, I’ve always had U of M on my radar because it’s a huge feeder school to the Ivies and other top-tier law schools, even having one of the best in the country itself. But maybe there’s some stuff I’m not considering?

Hmm… where to start? Originally, I wanted to go to James Madison (my goal too, originally was law school for children’s rights or family law). However, I found another school here (Residential College in the Arts and Humanities) that much better fit my interests and UMich doesn’t have anything close to a comparable program.

I am a very laid-back, easy-going person, and let’s be honest, UMich as a whole is not. I had already spent 4 years of high school with people who cared more about grades than about knowledge, and I didn’t want to spend four more years like that. I know of first hand accounts of notes being sabotaged, stolen, etc just to make sure that some people didn’t set the curve. I have yet to hear of anything like that here at State.

Hmm… I am also more of a country girl than a city girl and the campus at MSU is without a doubt one of the most gorgeous in the country for someone who likes greenery like I do.

I’m sure there’s more that’s just what comes to mind right off the top of my head.
