Hi CC,

I am a rising senior at Wesleyan University and I would love to answer any questions you may have about academics, student life, or Middletown.

Academics:
How many credits would you recommend taking?

Student Life:
What are some popular activities on-campus?
What is nightlife like on the weekends?
How popular is greek life on campus? What is it like?

Middletown:
Best place to order pizza from??

How are the job/internship opportunities? I’m especially concerned about finding a job once I graduate, does the career center really help with this or do I need my own connections?

I’ve heard wes is kind of a hippie “granola” school. How true/false is that?
Sort of related, what’s the typical Wes student like?

I decided to look into Wesleyan after I enrolled in a Coursera course called The Modern and Post Modern. VERY interesting and good professor. I suppose the humanities in Wes are generally good?
And specifically, how is the Art History / Urban Studies major? And do students often find interns? I am a bit worried about the location. It’s not in the middle of nowhere, like, say Middlebury or Bowdoin, but it’s certainly not urban.

In reply to lexieam:

1) Whatever you’re comfortable with as long as you graduate on time.

2) Part of the appeal of Wes is the number and variety of activities and student groups, but the mobile rave and chilling on foss on a warm afternoon are “popular” activities.

3) There’s usually a few concerts/dances. Students with houses and apartments will throw parties. If the friday night film series is fun (think Disney or Miyazaki) it’ll be packed.

imho the amount of fun you have on any given night is more related to who you’re with than with what’s going on.

4) It’s small. Three frats have houses, though some of them may be on probation so they won’t be particularly active this year. They typically host dances and parties, but they play a relatively small roll in the wes party scene because so many seniors have houses.

Eclectic and and alpha delt also have (really nice) houses, but they’re different animals altogether.

Mondo and Illiano’s on wash st, neither deliver though.

What is it like being premed here? Are there a lot of premed students? Do you know if any still study abroad and have internships?

Is the drugs/drinking culture really big? I know I’ll find it in basically all colleges, but does it dominate social life? What do most students do for fun, and is it at all cliquey (like in high school)?

Do you know if theres a culinary club?

Could you explain a bit more about the 5 year BA/MA program in Neuroscience and Behavior? Could I also choose to major in something else while going through that program?

what was something that made you stand out in order to be accepted?

Is there any kind of outing club? What’s the involvement in it like?

There is an outing club. They usually have a few small outings a week. The associated program house called (what else) Outhouse, has a very strong community and is, imo, a great place to live. They have an attic full of cool outing gear that’s available for borrowing.
