Ask a current UCR freshman anything!

Was there a fee to SIR? Because I was never told to pay anything and I just SIR’d and it said I was now registered, but my friend who is planning on going to UCI said he had to pay $100 dollars.

When I was accepted for Fall 07 to UCR, i had to pay an SIR fee of $100. I don’t know about this year lol.

I just got accepted by UCI for UC Interacmpus transfer as a Junior standing and i have to pay a $100 SIR Fee.

hey thanks alot for doing this, much appreciated.
I just got accepted into UCR, i didn’t even apply there but i applied to a few other UC’s and didn’t get accepted and then got a letter from UCR offering me acception.
my questions, sorry theres a couple.
It’s my last semester senior year and I’ve been super lazy and not doing well you said you got an f your senior year and were still accepted? what class did you get an f in? and do you think if i got a d in physics they would cancel my acception.
What dorms should i apply for? food plan? why?
I never applied for financial aid, how much did financial aid help you and is there any chance i could still apply.
Thanks alot.

Oh ya one last thing, I’m a clean freak , how do i go about making sure I get a room mate that is the same?

lol again: how far is it from morongo

I think Morongo is no more than 30 mins away from UCR

I think I asked before, but I’ll ask again because I kind of want a more detailed answer from someone who has the experience…

How is the party scene and people???I’m going to room with my best friend from high school in East Lothian if that gives you any information.

LOL. I’m afraid of getting a D in physics too. Sick senioritis. -_- It’s not THAT close to Morongo is it…? I know it’s at least 40-60 minutes away from LA.

isn’t it true that even if you fail if your final accumulative weighted gpa is over 3.0 then you’re fine?

Oh yeah, also is there an orchestra there?

Er, I know you guys discussed this earlier, but if you place a 3 or higher on the Calc AB/BC test you’re exempt from the MAE? I’m going into CNASS (chem major) and an earlier post said I MUST take it, but at the same time it gave an exemption

Also, if I pass the BC test (which is tomorrow :/) what level do I start at? I’m not sure about how far into the higher math classes I’ll be required to go into

haha gl on calc bc test! im taking it tomarrow as well

I think u get exempt from first 2 levels of math. forgot the names though

hey i was wondering about the math program, its difficulty and if its doable to take 3 math classes at once in upper division. im a possible transfer and trying to find out a little more about the dept,

thanks

I turned in my fafsa for 09-10 already but more importantly im pretty sure I turned in my cal grant GPA verification form before its deadline which was march 2nd
but i called them already and an automatic robot voice asked me q’s for my social security number and birth date and said they didn’t have any of my records on file… and i really need that CAL grant A! since my family EFC is like 0 which is low income of course.
and so my mom suggested that I send actual copies of my ID and SS cards, Birth Certificate, and proof of our financial stuff for them to verify, including a transcript?

Should I send these copies to CAL grant office or the UC financial admission office? or both?

im not sure what to do -_-" im a lil’ confused and stressed out here. Can somebody help me and guide me through this? Any helpful advices would be gratefully appreciated.

nvm i called them today acutally and one of the workers said I had until September to turn in everything to get my cal grant for my situation … im soo happy xD

If I’m majoring in Chemistry, and am enrolled in CNAS, do you guys know what the minimum requirements are for math? As in, at least how many semesters of math will I need to fulfill grad requirements, and to what level of math?

@ Whiteclock
Glad to see we’re getting more Chem majors! awesome! (i’m one of very few…)
Chemistry is one of the harder majors here at UCR, esp when youre minoring in physics! If you look at the general catalog it lists all that is required for the major. I haven’t read up on all of the previous posts, but note that as a chem major you will have to take both single variable and multi-variable Calculus series. that is MATH009 and MATH010. along with some other math classes, and i believe 24 combined units of upper devision math n physics classes. Also, you have to take the “real” physics class to to complete the major, so thats PHYS040 (unlike the other easier physics classes that other majors take). Now, given that you do very good on your a/b and b/c exams, you may skip a few classes. I got a five and my a/b and was able to skip math9a, and placed into math9b. but overall i like the review! I got a 3 on my b/c (major seniorities!) so i didnt get to skip any other math classes, however overall because of all my APs i received a lot of units, so it does help! haha.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Please dont be scared of the major… A LOT of ppl are. but if it is not your thing then yeah, you’ll end up switching out too.
Best of luck to ya!

Eh, more math? I’m not sure how all of these classes are supposed to fit in, seeing that I have to do english classes, bio, chem, physics, random humanities, and a lotta math…I know that freshman usually take 3-4 classes, but how many do upperclassmen usually take?

hi I’m going to be an incoming freshman next year, and I was planning on living in the sterling palms instead of in a dorm.
will that affect me making friends…?? or would I miss out too much on college life? I mean if I joined a club or do some other acitivities on campus wouldn’t I still be able to meet new people…??

live in the dorms. you’ll regret it if you don’t.

after your first year is when you should look into apartments

ok…that is what a lot of people have been telling me…

another question: lots of people are telling me that the Pentland Hills dorms seem to be very quiet… would you recommend these dorms…?? I just like them because they are new buildings and they have wifi in the dorms.
I mean I would still meet a lot of nice people right??( boys and girls??)
