ask a current UCR student

Hello everyone, I am a first year Sophomore( yes weird but possible) here at UCR and I would be more than happy to answer your questions.

I was admitted to UCR fr Bio Science. I heard it’s one of the hardest majors. as a freshmen, would I have any time to actually, enjoy college?

p.s) do you like it at riverside? How come there are so many negative views on this school?

I’m a first year student too. I’ll let you know my perspective on things as well.

I know a lot of people who are bio sci majors. You will be taking gen ed classes during the first two years of college. It’s truly manageable. If you want to have fun and do well in school, you really just need to set your priorities straight and manage your time really well. It’s the best advice anyone can give to you in college. There is a tutoring center available, and you should REALLY go if you need help. If you’re struggling, then take control and do something about it.

I never had any regrets about going to UCR. Just remember, no matter what college you go to, you have to utilize everything that is offered to you. I truly enjoy my college life.

UCR has a bad reputation because it’s a newer school compared to the other UCs… and it takes time to build a good reputation. The neighborhood is also a negative part of it, but every college campus has its crimes. Be smart; don’t go anywhere in the middle of the night if you don’t have to and always have someone with you. The acceptance rate is probably a bit too high, which is why almost everyone sees this UC as a back up… AND, of course, it’s ranking isn’t high up in the chart, so that would probably have a lot of do with it as well.

Well a lot of my friends are Bio Sci majors and they do study a lot, though it is extremely manageable. It college so they are some hard classes and some really easy classes. But youll find time to enjoy the social aspect of college give a day or two on the dorms for ppl to talk, unless you live in Pentland

To answer your quest if I like UCR. I freakin love it. I had the chance to go to UCSC and a full ride to UCM but picked Rside. UCR is not a bad school its just a bunch of ppl bad mouthing it because its located in a suburbs of LA. There are area in which UCR is way Higher ranked than UCLA and others. Also UCR sends more students to Grad school than any other UC.

I took an English course at a local community college and got a B in it during the summer, and the course is transferable, so do i still have to take the English placement test?

No you dont You dont have to take eng till winter quarter

not trying to question your facts, but i’m the type of person who really needs to see some sort of proof for any claims…

I was just curious, can you show me where you got the info that ucr sends the most students to grad school than any other uc’s ?

I plan to go to a good grad school, and I’m feeling a bit… iffy on whether or not to go to ucr.
I just want to fees assured. haha

thanks!
