Ask a Current UCSB Student Anything!

hello, if i paid my bill already, why did our online bookstore ask my credit card number? isn’t the money of buying textbooks included in fee i paid or do i need any extra steps?

the reason i wanna buy textbooks is that im enrolled in chem 1A so i got an email which is about encouraging me to do the summer homework assignment through ALEKS.

is anyone planning or already doing the assignment?
Could anyone tell me if the homework is helpful to prepair for my course?

The money of buying textbooks are NOT included in the free you paid. You have to buy your own textbooks :|

Hello, I want to go to UCSB as a chemical engineer. The only thing is is that I know it is harder to get in as an engineer then any other major there, so does anyone know about the sat scores and gpa’s one would need to be accepted into UCSb for Chem E???

For the UCSB school of Engineering:
4.0+ GPA.
2500 SAT.
36 ACT.
More than 20 extracurricular activities.
Gotta be in top 3% in your class.
Gotta be a valedictorian.
Gotta participate in at least 3 Varsity sports and excel in them by becoming county champs in all 3.
If you’re a dude you gotta be over 5’10" in height and have <10% body-fat and have a great deal of muscle.
If you’re a girl your height doesn’t matter but you must possess a body that Western culture finds desirable.

collegeboy- ignore everything roy just said.
you need a pretty high gpa. id say around a 4.2. SATs around 2100. Do extremely well on the chem SAT subject test as well as math2, aim for 750 or higher.

try to involve yourself in something sciencey as an extracurricular

of course not having doing as well in some areas wont be a direct denial. but have those stats and you have good chances

Why is the sky blue?

will this happen to me in the dorms?

What are my chances? Applying as a History major, even though thats weird for this school it’s my perfect fit. Middle class white male from NJ, I go to the biggest high school in the state.

SATs: 2060 (730 CR, 610 M, 720 W)

SAT IIs: World History 770, Literature 660

AP US History: 5

GPA: 90/100 UW (no weighted GPA), ranked 122 of 697

Wrote what’s been called a standout essay by everyone I’ve shown it to (by people at Princeton and a former admissions rep from Yale). Funny and about my musical journey

I wish the UC schools allowed recs…

ECs and awards:

National Honor Society
Boys State (won Public Advocate)
Captain, CHS Swimming 11-12
All-County and All-League Honors in swimming, 4-yr Varsity letterwinner
Keystone Club President, VP, Sergeant-at-Arms
350 plus volunteer hrs
Boys and Girls Club of my town’s Boy of the Year award
Naval Academy Summer Seminar, Most Outstanding Candidate

My own production company (I produce and DJ and am a recognized artist). One of the big reasons I want to go to UCSB is the music scene that goes on around IV… I’m looking at academics first though!!

Worked as a counselor, maintenance, lifeguard, and food preparer/server at a local bagel joint to invest in stock market and put money into my studio.

hi what majors arent so impacted at sb and which u probably have a chance of getting in like is mathematics like strongly impacted or no ???

I am OOS and plan on attending either SBCC or UCSB. If i went to SBCC would there still be as much of a party scene as there is at UCSB? I’m not sure if I would still fit in with all of the UCSB students since it’s a different school. Since im OOS would i be better off attending SBCC even if i did get into UCSB since it’s way less expensive

Uhh… Students from SBCC always come down to IV to party so…

oh so like everyone is friends with each other and all lol

What are my (transfer) chances?
UCSB is my #1 choice to transfer to. I’m in my second year at UCSC right now and want to transfer for Fall 2012.

Applied Major: Comparative Lit, interdisciplinary
Current GPA: 3.5
Major GPA: 3.75

I have heard inter-campus transfers are pretty hard, but UCSC really isn’t a good fit for me. Thank you!

I want to major in Psychology.

First-gen college student.

GPA of 3.95W and 3.6UW.

SAT score: 1850.

I am a CA resident.

AP scores:
AP Chinese language and culture - 5
AP English language and composition - 3
AP Physics B - 4
AP Calculus AB - Estimate of a 4

Is UCSB within my reach? What are my chances?

Your GPA and SAT are both below average. 40 percent chance.

Jaylower, you have a pretty good chance of getting in as long as you have decent EC’s.

My UC 10-11 Gpa was a 3.71 with a 1630 SAT. Just make sure your personal statement is solid, and you’ll be good to go.

Anyone know what this 200 unit rule is at UCSB?

Hi, I’m from England.

I’ll hopefully be coming to study at UCSB next year if everything goes to plan, just curious as to what i can expect, what is UCSB like etc? Just the usual questions really :)

Also one question on ID. I’ll turn 20 just before the start of term. So obviously not legal to purchase Alcohol but having been legal in England for 2 years it will be so frustrating ha! Would you recommend that i just approach it like any other student and adhere to the rules. Or try and get ID from the UK, which would show i’m 21. Would i get away with fake-English ID or would this be a silly move?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

How nasty are the parties over there like?

Define “nasty”.
