I'm guessing the Smash Bros. is the Gamecube version and the N64 version?

How's the bathroom situation?

nice, i love smash brothers. :)

The Brian - I LOVE Smash Bros. as well, but mainly only the N64 version. It is unfortunate that nearly everyone else only loves the Gamecube version and only like to play that version :(

bathrooms.. well that depends on what college and what buliding... but usually theres two toilets, two showers, and two sinks... atleast for muir... yeah... so theres about thirteen girls in my suite... and ive never had an issue waiting for a shower or anything... its actually pretty surprising.. plus in muir tioga was remodeled so new everything for the bathrooms =)

in erc, there are four sinks, three toliets, and three showers for about 13 folks.

Go Muir! Well for gaming scene here, basically EVERYONE who games plays either Smash Bro's or DOTA. DOTA is HUGE. As for ocean view I just have to walk 3 steps to see an amazing one every day (8th floor tenaya).

And if you do get into UCSD I recommend when you fill out the survey to be VERY cautious.

Don't you guys/ladies feel uncomfortable having to use the toilet while others are also in the same bathroom taking a shower or brushing their teeth? :o

That's why I'm not fond of communal bathrooms.

The toliets are behind separate stalls and the showers all have curtains.doesn't really bother me if someone's humming sexyback in the shower while i'm reading the weekly news on the toliet...

Liux43 - Wow, beautiful view! What exactly do you mean by being cautious on the survey? Hmm...

well not cautious, but just think about what you choose. The questions are very broad. I am currently living with 2 other people who are somewhat different. Actually, we are all different. It's not that we don't get along it's just that i'm sure you would rather someone sleeping 'til 2 - 3 a.m. if you have a 8a.m. class the next morning. Some stuff like that, you'll know what i'm talking when/if you get it.

i play poker almost every friday night with my friends

will i meet people like this at ucsd?

Azure326, why do you not like the gamecube smash?

it's better in just about every way.

also, i play poker frequently, too. :)

Probably--I get to play Hold 'em and Pai Chi a bit for money every now and then with suitemates or frat brothers.

cool. yeah, it's mostly hold 'em for me.

The Brian - Of course, it's entirely subjective as to which one is better. I just personally prefer the first one. I grew up on it and am much more used to its physics/fighting engine than the Gamecube one (The physics is VERY different, so you literally have to play in a completely different way in order to do well). There's just so many new changes extra frou-frou stuff. It's unfortunate that nearly everyone says that the Gamecube version is better in every single way, because than those that love and cherish the N64 version never get a chance to play it with anyone ("OMG! Why play the older N64 version? It's crap! The newer version has more stuff! It's better in every single way!!).

It's not that the GC version is better--it's just that it's better for competitive gaming because the learning curve is just that much higher. With the introduction/bug of wave-dashing, there are more defined levels of playing between the recreational gamer and the more serious one.

cr_book: Yes, some colleges (i.e. Warren) hold free poker tournaments every week or so. I forget...

Warren's poker tournaments are only open to Warren students and they're held twice a quarter.

Oyama - I understand, but nearly every person I've run into that perfers the Gamecube version of the N64 version comments something about how only Melee is for professionals/pros, and that there's not enough depth to the original to allow for serious play. I'm a serious N64 version player and these statements always annoy me as they only further contribute to the anti-N64 mindset that prevents me from finding any good competition to play Smash with :(

I agree that the Gamecube version would be better for tournaments and what not considering it leaves more room for mastery considering all the new stuff/moves, but that in no way means that there isn't a lot of room to get really good at the N64 version and have tournaments as well (There's still a lot of strategy and what not involved in the N64 version, despite what many Melee players seem to think based on its simple look).

Oh well, perhaps my efforts are in vain. I was just excited at the thought of N64 Smash Bros. tournaments at one of the UCs I'm considering :(

thanks for the info, IGotIn!
