Ask a current UNC student questions

Normally the big intro courses are lectures by faculty on monday and wednesday, and then discussion sections with grad students on Friday (often at 8am).

Intro courses will also be taught by grad students disguised as faculty, either on this same schedule, or Tuesday and Thursday.

Most courses are 3 credit hours, meaning you meet for 3x50 minute class sessions a week. These can be MWF, or 2x75min on Tuesday and Thursday.

UNC is by far your best bet out of those options if you want to work in finance. UNC is a semi-target; State and Hofstra aren’t close in terms of Wall Street recruiting. Kenan-Flagler has an advantage over Arts and Sciences in terms of recruiting but there are students in Arts and Sciences who go into finance as well.

But beware that certain finance jobs are basically open only to HYP grads: <a href=“Percolator: Brown and Cornell Are Second Tier”>http://chronicle.com/blogs/percolator/brown-and-cornell-are-second-tier/27565

what you do after you have found a roommate? there are different options on the housing application like search by PID numner, search by profile or browse matching. which one should i click in order to send the roommate request to the person that i decided to room with?

I’m accepted to UNC and am very excited. Also accepted to Honors College. Have questions about housing. Being able to play piano is very important to me. I believe some of the residence halls have pianos. Should I choose one of those halls or honors housing (I hear rooms are bigger). Thanks

Honors dorms definitely are nice, and if you want access to a Piano you could get a friend to let you into a dorm that has a piano. (Dorms are locked and you only have access to your “community”) For example if you live in Craige North you also have access to Hardin because that is the “Manning West Community”

The following halls on campus have pianos located in public lounges or common areas:

Cobb Community: Cobb - 1st Floor Lobby - Small Interior Lounge
Kenan Community: McIver - 1st Floor Parlor and also Spencer - 1st Floor Parlor
Upper Quad Community: Ruffin - 1st Floor Lounge
Parker Community: Parker - Basement Parlor
Craige Community: Craige - 1st Floor - Carolina Room
Ehringhaus Community: Ehringhaus - Ground floor - Mailroom
Morrison Community: Morrison - 1st Floor - Multi-Purpose Room
Hinton James Community: Hinton James - 1st Floor - Game Room
Odum Village Community: Odum Community Center - 2nd Floor

Of these communities, the one that you would be most likely to be able to get into as a first year is Hinton James (a nice upright Yamaha). Then maybe Craige, Ehringhaus or Morrison. By the way, Cobb has a baby grand in a nice practice room… If you can get into there.

Ehringhaus is right next to Koury (honors dorm), but as noted above, you will need to gain access from a friend who lives there.

how are the frats in terms of accepting OOS kids (northeast) … is it really just personality dependent, are some frats more open to that than others (which?), are most of them comfortable really only with IS kids, …?

When I thought I was interested in a frat, OOS didn’t seem to be an issue. I ultimately received a bid but turned them down.
