Ask A Current Yale Student

So within this hour (hopefully!) the first batch of Yale 2014-ers will officially be admitted. Please feel free to use this thread to ask any and all questions you can think of.

:) Ask away!

umm, do you you know the percent of deferred SCEA applicants got admitted in previous years?

It’s about the same as the percentage of RD applicants accepted.

There is still hope. I know of at least three people in my year who were accepted after they were deferred.

My best friend here was accepted after she was deferred.

It’s really really common. I can’t say that I know of the number, but there was a large number of deferries accepted last year.

I think one of the pledge stat threads from last year has a stat.

What would you say Yale’s “type” is?

Ambitious, high achieving, self-motivated. Very hungry academically. Easy going, enjoys people generally. That’s my experience.

As someone who barely studied in high school, I’m surprised to see the amount of studying people do here. One of my friends has literally been locked in her room studying for the past two weeks, emerging only for meals. I also came from a not-so-competitive high school, so it’s interesting to see that most people here care about their grades and are willing to work for it. That being said, this is probably true for all top colleges.

I chose Yale because the students here tended to be more open and unassuming. Sure people are still people, and there is still de facto segregation amongst ethnic and socioeconomic lines, but it’s definitely less apparent than at other schools.

Yale seemed like the most NORMAL school that I looked at. It’s not a completely liberal school, many of my friends consider themselves conservative. It’s not a “gay” school- though it’s definitely a very open environment. People don’t impose themselves on you, but everything is up for discussion. Nothing feels forced.
