I’m gonna email out about if it delays the reading of your application (I’ll post back later) but I know for sure that it doesn’t raise red flags. It just allows you to submit an additional score for consideration (no hidden agenda). There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking and sending in a January SAT for RD.

The only caveat is that you need to have SAT scores (or ACT) scores submitted before the deadline even if you plan on taking the test in January. (obviously you meet that requirement)

Your scores will reach admissions before the actual “reading” period. Admissions just wants to make sure applicants are sending in completed applications. There will be no difference between an applicant who sends in a January SAT or any other applicant.

Also, have the majority of people at Dartmouth been skiing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, etc. before? Or are there a lot of kids who pick up for the first time? And how is the Freshman camping trip?

Parent here who spent some time over break with some freshmen. Neither one skis, hikes, mtn bikes or kayaks and both love Dartmouth. One is however considering taking up skiing due to the upcoming winter. Both enjoyed DOC trips, but one liked being in cabins and the other had to sleep “under the stars” and wished they were in a cabin!

Hey kryshel. I’d say you shouldn’t have any problems with diversity here. Some minority groups tend to stick to themselves, but that is a self-selection phenomenon and not a result of other people pushing them out.

As far as our English program, I do not know a lot, but I do know the main creative writing class (eng 70 or something like that?) is said to be awesome. I have several friends who have taken it and loved it and highly recommend that. I’ve also had a friend who was a CW major, and seemed to love and and the head of the creative writing department as a prof in one of my classes and she seemed really awesome. So I can’t imagine it would be a terrible experience.

I just randomly found this thread while looking for something else and was thrilled for an opportunity to get a few questions answered. For varsity athletes, how difficult is it to be involved in other extracurricular activities? to go on study abroad trips? What is the intramural sports scene like?? Are there a lot of students who double major, have a minor, or both?? I’m very interested in physics and languages and would love to double major and maybe pick up a second language as a minor should I get in (I’m '11 so I’m not applying for a while, but it’s always nice to know)? Thanks so much! I loved Dartmouth when I visited in the fall, especially the D-Plan, study abroad, and DOC and hope I have the opportunity to attend!

Hi, I’m a freshman at Vassar College applying to transfer to Dartmouth for next year. My question might be odd, and I’m not sure if people here will be able to answer it well. My dad was a professor at Tuck from 1992-2001 (he was a full professor when he left), so I partially grew up in Hanover. When I left I remember that the book store was getting taken over, a real tragedy for those who knew the old one, and that a bunch of safety regulations around the bonfire had been put in place. Has anything else about Hanover or Dartmouth changed since then? Also, is there a way to alert admissions about my Dad’s professorship? Thanks to whoever answers

P.S. I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Lou’s. Cruller french toast and The Doc’s Favorite are two of the best breakfasts ever.

What is required to get into Dartmouth? Do you need to take certain years of a forgien language? Do you need a perfect SAT score? What can I do to have a better chance of getting into Dartmouth?

any dartmouth engineers here? i’m a prospective sophomore transfer. Can one graduate in engineering with BE degree in 4 years? how good is the program? i’ve done some thorough research and it seems very exciting.

what about prospect upon graduation? can thayer engineers go to engineering powerhouses like MIT, caltech, stanford, etc? what about jobs? thanks!

So, I’m starting to love Dartmouth more and more…
I’m a prospective student athlete, and I was wondering whether recruits are big at Dartmouth.
I’m a swimmer and I’ve checked out the Dartmouth swim team and I’d fit around the middle to upper half of the team… will this help in admissions? Does the coach have a big say?
Thanks in advance!
