<p>There have been threads like this before...but I'm here to provide recent advice/insight! Ask any questions about Deerfield that you have and I'll answer them to the best of my ability. I might even get a few CCers that live in my dorm to contribute their opinions!:)</p>

My SSAT practice score was 2100/2400. I have been competing in soccer prgrams with my school and community since I was 4. I also play volleyball and lacrosse. I have been on the chess team, student government, and yearbook clubs. I like to read. I am currently in 8th grade. I take 9th grade geometry classes, world history, AP English and Biology.
I think one thing about me that would make me stand out is that I am very outspoken and just, different, I guess. I am my own person.</p>
<p>Well, I’m in the process of choosing schools/starting applications right now, and uh…I just took Deerfield off my list. Not as a final decision of course, but I’m thinking about it. The problem is, I have no idea why. It just didn’t seem that great to me, even though I know it is. So…tell me why Deerfield is so amazing. And please try not to use cliches. Sorry, I know this isn’t really a typical question, but there’s a part of me that wants to like Deerfield. I just don’t have a reason why.</p>
<p>The people who usually don’t like smaller, more cohesive schools like Deerfield usually gravitate towards larger schools like Andover and Exeter for their brandname cliches. :D</p>

<p>Wow Paperideas, that is so wierd. I took it off my list as well, though not permenantly. That is just strange. Honestly I don’t like smaller schoola as much.</p>
<p>Well I actually am. I have many friends that go to BS. They mostly fall into two main categories. Those that prefer larger schools like Andover, Exeter, Choate, Lawrenceville and those that prefer smaller schools like Deerfield, Hotchkiss, and SPS. It’s just my observation. People that prefer bigger schools are usually more independent and would like to be involved in many activities that bigger schools offer, like more sports teams, clubs etc.</p>
<p>My local high school (the one I’m going to if I don’t get accepted anywhere) has more than 3000 people in it, so Andover/Exeter really doesn’t seem that big to me.</p>
<p>That was my point, people like whatever they like.</p>
<p>I have a great local high school, people ask me why I even bother with boarding.</p>
<p>That awkward moment when you forgot you started a help forum because you’re having too much fun at Deerfield…</p>

JAMIE: I think you stand a really great chance at getting into Deerfield!But you do know that both soccer and volleyball are fall sports? Just putting that out there. Being different is great. Obviously I don’t know you and neither do the admissions officers so that means that you should really work on expressing yourself through essays and interviews. Best of luck! Paper Ideas: All I can say is that Deerfield may not be for everyone. But i can honestly say that I love the campus a lot and the people and teachers are great. I personally feel that it is the perfect size. One is able to recognize most everyone and that appeals to me. I can’t tell you why you should like Deerfield…but here are some things that appeal me to me:</p>
<p>Like I said, the size of the school. Our headmaster knows everyone’s names. I think that’s pretty cool?
Is this cliche? I apologize if it is…but the campus is stunning.
The dress code keeps us looking classy:D The dress code isn’t that bad so don’t be turned away by that. Sit down meals are also a GREAT thing. They have saved me from those awkward first days where every other new kid at other schools are desperately searching the dining hall for someone to sit with.
They also decided to introduce a new orientation program called Connect 4 which was pretty cool. All of us frosh went to stay in cabins and had smores and all that campy stuff. We did a lot of class “getting to know eachother” activities.
The food is also really good!
And that “middle of no where” aspect also isn’t as dominant as I though it’d be. There are some great activities/restaurants that are just a cab ride away!

<p>I’m also thinking about whether or not to apply. Not that the school doesn’t seem really good or anything, it just seems very stuffy. Strict dress regulations, meal arrangements and its just so small!
Does it seem this way to you, or would you just say that small schools like Deerfield aren’t for everyone?</p>
<p>Trust me…the school is anything but stuffy! I personally LOVE the fact that I do not have to walk 15 minutes from my dorm just to go to class. Sit down meals are fantastic in my opinion! Besides not having to worry about who sit with it gives you a chance to connect with not only your teachers and faculty but upperclassmen that you may have never gotten to know otherwise.
It really isn’t super small. I sometimes feel like I’m meeting a couple new freshmen everyday…or rather, getting to know them better everyday!
So yeah…I would just say that it isn’t for everyone.</p>

<p>It’s not just so small, it is the right/perfect size to get to know every one and not feel too small or like a large shopping mall. Groton, Middlesex, and SAS are smaller. Are the boarding schools in UK large, >600 students?</p>
<p>I am a freshman and I am thinking about applying for Deerfield next year 
First off, what do you think my chances of getting in are? my Extra credits/ sports from last year and this year are… NJHS, NJAHS, best on track and XC team, over 50 hours with special needs children, a 200 hour service project, winning a governer’s award, winning a $5,000 grant from the pepsi refresh project( for my 200 hour service project), being a girlscout troop leader, doing rec basketball, 100 extra community service hours ( from lots of different things), being in drama club, being in KEY club, being in ROCT, and I have maintained straight A+'s this year and all of last year ( exception to one A) and I have AP standardized test scores. I will be taking the SSAT in December and I most likely wil do very well on it. :)</p>
<p>Also, did you recieve any scholarships/ financial aid? That is my biggest problem… Lastly, do you think that if I ended up going to deerfield next year that you guys ( the freshman there) would already be really clique like not allowing newbies to really fit in? Thanks!</p>
<p>I love Deerfield!!! I visited a few weeks ago on a Friday, and what struck me as I was walking around campus was all the people laughing and talking and saying hi to me. I remember someone shouting “It’s friday!!!” and everyone started cheering, and it just seemed so warm and welcoming. I personally like that it’s not a mini-college, and the campus is absolutely GORGEOUS (I thought it was stunning even when half the fields were torn up from the hurricane!) I want to go to Deerfield soooo badly :))))</p>
<p>Have you had your interview yet? With a low 13.5% admit rate, you really need to do well in the interview and on your essays. Good luck.</p>
<p>Yeah, I interviewed at the same time as my visit. I think it went really well! However, it was my first interview ever, so my perception of a good interview may be slightly skewed. I know it’s a long shot to get accepted, especially since I need financial aid, so I can only try my hardest and hope for the best!</p>
<p>What kind of questions do they ask your parents at the interview, and did you get any tricky (really hard) questions asked when they interviewed you?</p>
<p>Invent: Idk about BS’ in the UK, never even looked at applying. But my state schools has around 1200 students, even though its relatively small and girls only.
what are the dorms like? are they big/well furnished/clean?</p>
