Ask a Deerfield freshmen!

If u applied for FA and demonstrate need, some schools will not admit u if they cannot fund FA for u. I think the logic is that if your family cannot afford it w/o FA, then u are unlikely to continue at the school to graduation.

Some school will accept u, then WL u for FA. Then it’s a waiting game to see if some other kid who was admited w FA decides to decline the offer of admissions.

There is a finite pot of FA money to distribute.

i took the december ssat and i got 2049 does that look really bad for deerfield? so worrieeddd…!!!

The average SSATs of admitted students are high, but that’s the average, so there are scores higher and lower. SSAT is just one component of the application. If you have good grades, essays, interview, and any hooks you will be fine. Show in your application why Deerfield is a good fit to pursue your high school goals and what you will contribute to the Deerfield community and how you’ll take advantage of all that Deerfield has to offer. Good luck.

About how long should my essay be? It’s taking forever because I keep changing it, and I can’t decide how to write it. :/

There are many opportunities for language immersion programs (French, Spanish, German, Chinese) at Deerfield and they are very popular among the students. The teachers here emphasize speaking the language during the class that I really like.

Hi! Out of curiosity, how are Deerfield’s community service programs?

Thanks  Hope to be one of you guys next year. :D

There are ample opportunities for community service such as Second Helpings, a Soup Kitchen, Big Brother/Big Sister program where you mentor/tutor kids from local schools, Habitat for Humanity, working in nursing homes and animal shelters, and Summer trips to Costa Rica to build homes for which one can also get financial aid.

Good luck with your application.

Wow, haha, that’s so awesome  I’m actually really excited now.
Thanks so much, Deerfield2015!

I had a question regarding repeating a grade. Is it normal for people at Deerfield to repeat 10th grade instead of going onto the 11th grade for settling purposes. Also I have a friend who had a question about the bathroom/showers; where are they and are they communal or private?

It is definitely not unusual to repeat a grade here at Deerfield so if you came I can assure that you would meet more than a couple of other people that have.

The bathrooms are communal but I can speak for them and say that they are SUPER clean. Every morning they are cleaned from top to bottom and the showers are private just in case you were wondering…not like one big shower or something that everyone has to share…haha! Hope I helped…anymore questions?
On another not it’s going to snow tomorrow for the 2nd time so far this school year (the other time being in October).

Actually, I have my interview with DA + PEA this weekend. …What happens to campus tours if it rains/snows?

@bingalot Thanks, you answered my questions. Another question I had was about he uniform. If I’m accepted, do I buy my uniforms before I come or is their a website on the deerfield website that shows you where to order your clothing?

…I don’t think Deerfield has uniforms, right? Just a rather strict dress code, I believe.

@Myshkful That’s what I thought also, that probably is the dress code. Do you know where most guys shop at to buy their clothes?

@Deerfield2015 Do you know where most guys buy their clothes from?

I can tell you deerfield is not snowing a little yesterday but it didnt stick and it shouldnt be for a week or so

hey i’m applying as a freshman for deerfield this fall, and i was wondering whether it would improve my chances if i were to contact the sports coaches (my main sports are swimming and cross country/running) but i wasn’t sure whether my times would be good enough or whether it would make me seem… desperate?

If you are good at the sport and you are passionate about it, yeah, it is a good idea to contact the coach. You can call the admissions office for the contacts or look up the coach’s email on the DA website.
