Ask a Freshman ???

My D REALLY wanted a MAC too. We asked her advisor during orientation, she recommended a PC and said it worked better with some of the apps teachers use. I would ask your D’s advisor. Depending on her major could determine what computer system to get.

I agree with wahine, check with advisor. My D is in the School of Journalism and she was told at orientation to get a Mac. She just finished her second year and has never had a problem for any of her classes. Apple stores usually run promo deals at this time of year for students going off to college. My D got a free printer and Itouch when she got her laptop. (you pay for them at the time of purchase but get a rebate check back within 2 weeks for the full cost). Good luck!

If your daughter is planning on doing anything with the Moore School of Business, she’ll either need a PC or have to go to a computer lab to do homework.

What is it about the business school that makes a PC a necessity? Are there any other majors on campus that require a PC as well? What would you recommend for a student who is trying to decide between the journalism school and the business school? Sorry for the barrage of questions, I’m just curious. Thanks in advance!

Do you know anything about the engineering department? Do you know if people seem to like it? Specifically civil engineering but I would be interested in peoples opinions about any engineering department. I know its not really known for engineering but I would save allot of money if I go there.

Also whats it like to transfer?

New Dean, with a great CV who brings a history of building and being associated with a top program in his previous position. Along with a new emphasis and with new funding his goal is to make it a major player. It’s a great time to be part of the program. It’s going nowhere but up.

Thanks to all who responded to my PC vs. Mac query. Your responses–as always–were very helpful.

A lot of PC-specific programs are what makes the PCs a necessity in the b-school. I also know a lot of people that use those programs in a lab to do their work but still have a Mac, and I also know a lot of people who have Windows on their Mac.

all macs come with boot-camp which takes part of the hard drive and makes it run windows. so all you need to do is install the windows operating system (xp, vista, 7) and you can start your mac as a windows running computer. i dont believe it is as fast as pcs would be but for programs used in the business school i don’t think they run very cpu taxing programs.

eadad: I’ve not seen any announcement of the new Dean for the College of Computing and Engineering. What’s the situation?

Thanks

I some questions about financial aid.
-Will you be notified via email or regular mail when your awards are complete or must you randomly check your vip account??
-Will more funds become available once enrollment deadline has passed, if people who were offered awards decide not to enroll??

As I recall he posted on here a few months back; if I am wrong I stand corrected. I’m going to try to find the post.

I will be a freshman at USC this fall. I took the AP Clac-BC exam yesterday, and I think I did well, but incase i didn’t I will have to take Calc 122 next year. I was wondering if anyone knew how difficult the class is because I’m from Madison, WI and at the UW 2nd year calc is the most dropped class.

Also, has anyone had trouble getting into any classes?

Do you mean MATH 142 or MATH 122?

I mean MATH 142 (Calculus II). sorry

What is your major? Is Math 142 going to be a requirement for you or will you have satisfied your math requirements with your AP credits?

hospitality management. i need 6 credits of math. i’m pretty sure i will pass the AP exam to get credit for MATH141, but i may not get credit for MATH142. So then i can take the next higher level (MATH 142) or some other kind of math. But since i already learned most of the material for MATH 142 i’m thinking i will take it unless i hear it’s really hard.

I’m pretty sure you will not need that level of math for the hospitality major

I’ve heard MATH 142 can be pretty hard, but if you have already learned most of the material for it it may be easier for you. If I were you though, I would just take statistics or something.

Lehigh and Eadad here is the post where the new chair posted.
