Ask a GW Student...

Your dorm address is the one you use. The package will be held at the mailing center & they will email you to let you know it’s arrived & you can pick it up there.

Remember to include your room number in the address.

xohay,

Pre-med here would be reasonable. Being in D.C., there are a number of places to do independent research, internships, etc. during undergrad. Shine on the MCAT. Get a 4.0 GPA in solid classes.I’ve heard that those in GW Medical School tend to get preferred residency placements.

**Where can I go shopping? Is there a mall?
**

There are plenty of stores and shops throughout the city. There’s a shopping “mall” (sort of) in Georgetown, with mostly boutique stores. For traditional-sized malls, there’s Tyson’s Corner (pricier), Ballston Mall (reasonably priced/typical suburban), Springfield Mall, Mazza Gallerie in the city (Wisconsin Ave), Union Station in the city (a shopping center, and an elegant and operating train station for your weekend NYC/Boston/Baltimore trips), Landmark, Fair Oaks, Pentagon City Mall (popular for GW students, though a bit pricey in some stores), Arundel Mills (far, in MD), Potomac Mills, etc. Some of these would require cars/cabs to get there.

sometimes it takes a while for the mail to go through at GW. We did the safe and will do so again, we didnt have any issues and the kids on her floor are great, but they come in handy. There is CVS near or on campus, I noticed last year it had more household things than our local CVS. and it wasnt too expensive. Wish I had bought some things there and saved the room in the car, and me from listening to my husband complain. I thought I would send my daughter with a CVS card for some of the things she might be missing.

so you’re saying that the science is strong too? also, what are the differences between the two campuses? and would you say there’s a decent/strong sense of school identity/spirit/pride?
-thank you :)

What I did last year, to have a little more cash in my pocket, is to use the GWorld at CVS by buying a visa or whatever card, to be used elsewhere. Things around campus are way too expensive.

is submitting a response for the summer reading mandatory? if not, am I missing out by not sending one in?

kissoflife, you don’t have to submit a response for the book. If you do, and they like it, I think you just get an invite to a dinner that the school is hosting.

I will appreciate any & all input

Check GW’s website for incoming Class of 2014. 31.5% admission rate out of 21,177 applicants with a yield rate of 37.4% (i.e., students accepting GW’s offers of admission).

More importantly, it says: “[t]he average class rank [for the Class of 2014] is at the 91st percentile.” Forget about the ECs, go after the basics (higher GPA and class rank) for GW to even consider your ECs, essays and recommendations.

Disneydoc -

I’d say you have a chance, but it’s weak because of your GPA. Focus on the test scores and GPA. A 3.4 GPA can’t even get in you NHS, let alone a top tier school. When I say you “have a chance,” that’s contingent upon you getting a 4.0 this next year. Forgot all those ECs- they’re nothing when you don’t have at least a 3.5, maybe a 3.7.

Foggy Bottom is “THE” campus. The second campus (Mount Vernon) is mostly for freshman housing and some classes- as well as some arts classes. Mount Vernon is a traditional, more “rural” (for DC) campus. Foggy Bottom is where most classes are, most students are, nearly all academic/school services are, etc. Live on Foggy Bottom. There’s also a Loudoun campus for doctoral or research programs, but you’ll never go out there.

School spirit? Some people have it, but I don’t find it a particularly school-spirited school. Most people are wrapped up in their internships, jobs, etc.

so you’re saying that the science is strong too? also, what are the differences between the two campuses? and would you say there’s a decent/strong sense of school identity/spirit/pride?

im a trying to pack all my clothes up and i was wondering what are the essentials to bring with me clothing-wise (i’m a girl by the way). how do GW students dress on a day to day basis? if i want to join a sorority, should i bring formal wear (dresses, heels, etc)? Anything else i might need?

Thanks for feed back guys.

Commonly worn: Jeans, Polo shirts, collared blouses/shirts, skirts, Juicy casual wear, Uggs (winter), North Face jackets (winter). If someone has an internship- suits all the time. If someone doesn’t work, they’re lucky to roll out to class in pajamas. Casual but trendy works if that’s your thing.

Realistically: Jeans, skirts, at least 1 semi-formal/cocktail dress for greek and special events on campus, 1 formal, 1 casual business suit, 1 dressier business suit, pajamas, casual pants/sweatpants, t-shirts, hoodies. Casual shoes, flip flops, and at least a pair or two for going out/clubbing and for dressier occasions.

Oh, and don’t forget shower flip flops and a bathrobe.

If I get accepted EDI, when is the latest that I can notify them that I am ACTUALLY going to attend GWU?

If you apply ED1, you must submit your enrollment fee by January 15th and withdraw all of your applications.

Ok thank you :)

Just to be clear: Applying ED 1or 2 means you will actually attend if you are admitted. Don’t apply ED if you have any doubts about going.
